This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

Question 1: How can I make it so that when I create problems with number answers, I only allow people one try to type the answer?
As far as I'm aware, there is no way to do this. User-submitted problems always default to 3 tries, although you could always contact support just to make sure.

thank you for the information, i'll see the contact support link
Question 2: In the guidelines for creating a problem, it says to put \times if you want a multiplication symbol in one place. However, I'm typing \times but a multiplication symbol isn't being inserted. What should I type to get a multiplication symbol to be inserted? (I am not accepting the answer of using the letter x as the multiplication symbol.)

You can check out this guide.
Much of the math on Brilliant is written in LATEX, and \times is no exception. Thus, make sure to enclose any Latex in backslashes and parenthesis, like this:
\ ( 2 \times 2 \ )
, except I've added a space between the backslashes and parenthesis so that it doesn't render it as Latex. This is what it will render as: 2×2. Hope this helps!Thank you both for answering this question
