Ratings And Percentiles

I was wondering if percentiles should be made more accurate, such as 93.85 % vs 94 %. I'm sure that there are more than 100 people on Brilliant. :P Also, perhaps we could have a global rating system? A leaderboard of the top 10, or top 100 in a subject, would definitely motivate a lot of people. But there are the issues of people possibly cheating to make the leaderboard. Maybe this isn't as simple as I thought it would be.

I do not think that having percentiles being made more accurate would provide you significantly more information. Always remember that there will be slight errors in calculation / estimation, and so a percentile should be interpreted as a range of possibilities instead.

While I agree that the pure idea of a leaderboard would be exciting for those with a competitive element, the resulting inclination to cheat / subvert the system would result in an opposite, negative effect. This is why we prefer to keep leaderboards localized, like "points earned amongst people you follow" or "those who have completed this set", as so to create relevance without inducing unwanted behavior.
