This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

When posting on Brilliant:

  • Use the emojis to react to an explanation, whether you're congratulating a job well done , or just really confused .
  • Ask specific questions about the challenge or the steps in somebody's explanation. Well-posed questions can add a lot to the discussion, but posting "I don't understand!" doesn't help anyone.
  • Try to contribute something new to the discussion, whether it is an extension, generalization or other idea related to the challenge.
  • Stay on topic — we're all here to learn more about math and science, not to hear about your favorite get-rich-quick scheme or current world events.

I am not too sure about class VIII but for class IX and X, here are the books which I used:

Physics, chemistry and Biology : S.Chand publications written by Lakhmir Singh and Manjit Kaur....great books for understanding concepts and HOTS questions.

Maths: RS Aggarwal and RD Sharma...RD Sharma is really good for higher level stuff

Totally agree with this. But you might want to note that this only applies for CBSE board. These books (probably) won't help with other boards or for the RMO/INMO.

@Anik Mandal Do you attend some coaching? Try the books of the AMTI or at least look up their annual competitions problem sets. If you don't find them, ask me, I have the paper of class-8 still with me :D

In return, I can give you a collection of 100 Brilliant level#4 Algebra problems.......had a tough time gathering them.

Satvik Golechha - 7 years, 1 month ago

@Satvik Golechha I'm sorry, but I really know to solve level 4 and 5 problems of only number theory.... algebra is a bit tough to do. Could you tell me how you're so good at math? ( I've asked you this enough number of times)

Krishna Ar - 7 years, 1 month ago

@Krishna Ar And I've told you enough number of times that you're better than me in maths. I'm waiting for the papers.....please.

Satvik Golechha - 7 years, 1 month ago

@Satvik Golechha Sorry, unless and until you tell me how you are so good at maths, I wont send the paper (S) ;) :P...... your levels are also a proof for that :)

Krishna Ar - 7 years, 1 month ago

@Krishna Ar Okay, so listen ( I mean read, of course )

I try to first understand the way a problem is solved, and then I solve all the problems which have similar logic. And about the levels, let me tell you the truth......Once my elder brother ( who is in IIT now) visited my house and solved a lot of level 4 and 5 problems. So, I reached level 4 in all math topics. Since then, I've tried my best to keep my level up.

Now, I beg you to please send me the papers. Please.........

For olympiad, a good book is Problem Primer collecting many problems.

Hello, could you tell me how you cracked RMO/INMO?

Krishna Ar - 7 years, 1 month ago

I didnot crack INMO. but I appeared for RMO from 8th std and I practised past papers very much. That helped me know several technicques which I had not previously learnt. Also many times they dont give all good solutions to problems so thinking other possible solutions is also helpful
