Results and Analysis of SoTW

A week or so ago I started a Status of the Week Contest to find out the most liked status here. The wait is over, and the results are out, and I've also analyzed them to get to some conclusions. I feel that the Contest was quite a success with 97 comments in all and a total of 30 entries.

The Contest's ended, and the winner is Jubayer Nirjhor, with their awesome status:-

"Only two things are infinite: the universe and WinRAR trial period."

He won with a total of 2929 upvotes, and over Ameya Salankar, who came second with their motivational status:-

"Be kind to people whom you meet while climbing your ladder of success because they are the same people you will meet when falling down!"

Conclusions:-

\bullet The downvote system again proved it's inapplicability, and many cool statuses earned unnecessary downvotes.

\bullet These things can be fun, like Finn's TPC's and Zi Song's choose a number. I hereby request Finn Hulse to restart hosting the Themed Problem Contests.

\bullet Out of the 100 comments, 50 were on the first day, so notes get buried deep in the feeds.

\bullet Aditya Raut got disqualified. -_-

\bullet Trolls are of two types, healthy trolls and diseased trolls on the basis of their deeds, and on the basis of influence, they're again of two types, contagious and non.

Please comment if you could extract anymore conclusions and tell me if the Contest lacked something, cuz it was the first of this kind...

This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

When posting on Brilliant:

  • Use the emojis to react to an explanation, whether you're congratulating a job well done , or just really confused .
  • Ask specific questions about the challenge or the steps in somebody's explanation. Well-posed questions can add a lot to the discussion, but posting "I don't understand!" doesn't help anyone.
  • Try to contribute something new to the discussion, whether it is an extension, generalization or other idea related to the challenge.
  • Stay on topic — we're all here to learn more about math and science, not to hear about your favorite get-rich-quick scheme or current world events.

@Satvik Goelchha , Thanks a TON!

Well I never thought that I would win the second prize though. It's a privilege!

By the way, congratulations @Jubayer Nirjhor .

By the way Satvik, don't you think you should provide a link to the contest note....?

Let's do another? Maybe the first week of every month?

Thanks, I think another 'Status of the Week' will be boring cuz those who wanted to participate already have. But I like the idea of one competition at the start of a month. In November, I am thinking of "Solution of the Week" or "Kabooble of the Week" or maybe a "Themed Problem Challenge" (if Finn doesn't have the copyright :P)...
