This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

When posting on Brilliant:

  • Use the emojis to react to an explanation, whether you're congratulating a job well done , or just really confused .
  • Ask specific questions about the challenge or the steps in somebody's explanation. Well-posed questions can add a lot to the discussion, but posting "I don't understand!" doesn't help anyone.
  • Try to contribute something new to the discussion, whether it is an extension, generalization or other idea related to the challenge.
  • Stay on topic — we're all here to learn more about math and science, not to hear about your favorite get-rich-quick scheme or current world events.

force of gravitation?

Harshit Kapur - 8 years, 4 months ago

The debris "fall" around the planet. Hope this helps.

debris fall so???????? they fall on earth also........

Heli Trivedi - 8 years, 4 months ago

they will fall on anything that has mass much much greater than their own mass.

Harshit Kapur - 8 years, 4 months ago

Falling around is different from a simple fall. An object "falls" around another object without having any contact with each other. That's the case in artificial satellites.

@Jandy Diaz but earth doesn't have any kind of ring around it........

@Heli Trivedi Perhaps it's because of its distance from the sun. Saturn's rings are mostly composed of debris made of ice (based on some books that I've read) and Sun's emitted energy is not enough to melt them all. And because earth is somewhat near to the sun, the sun's energy is enough to melt these ice debris.

It's just my opinion, I don't know if it's right.:)

my physics teacher told me that the planets are gaseous so they don't have proper spherical shape!!!!!!!! pls tell what is the relation of shape with this???????

Heli Trivedi - 8 years, 4 months ago

Saturn rings was made of ice and not exactly from the explosion of former diamond and it was automatically shaped out...
