This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

When posting on Brilliant:

  • Use the emojis to react to an explanation, whether you're congratulating a job well done , or just really confused .
  • Ask specific questions about the challenge or the steps in somebody's explanation. Well-posed questions can add a lot to the discussion, but posting "I don't understand!" doesn't help anyone.
  • Try to contribute something new to the discussion, whether it is an extension, generalization or other idea related to the challenge.
  • Stay on topic — we're all here to learn more about math and science, not to hear about your favorite get-rich-quick scheme or current world events.

Comments

I don't like math. I prefer maths, thank you very much.

When it comes about Mathematics, everything seems so much interesting to me that it really becomes difficult to compare. It's like a comparison among many infinities. I love every aspect of Maths very much. !!!

Well, I do not like Calculus but I love Number Theory, Algebra and Combinatorics The most

Have you ever wondered why n=11n2=π26\displaystyle \sum_{n=1}^{\infty} \frac{1}{n^{2}} = \frac{\pi^{2}}{6}, or what the volume of a doughnut is? Did you know that the number of primes less than or equal to nn can be approximated by nlnn\frac{n}{\ln n}, and that it is related to how the Riemann zeta function is never zero for all complex numbers with real part 1? Thanks to calculus, we uncover so much hidden beauty in mathematics.

Well, all the things you just said were overhead bouncers to me and I did not understand even a single term that you just said. Maybe when I learn more about the topic, I will change my opinion.

Mehul Arora - 6 years, 3 months ago

Same here.

Anuj Shikarkhane - 6 years, 3 months ago

Okay, I'm interested to know why you don't like calculus.

: Well It's some how that I have not started learning it in depth but after the very few problems that I solved, I think that this particular topic did not appeal that much to me as much as Number theory, Algebra and Combinatorics did.

Mehul Arora - 6 years, 3 months ago

I haven't started with calculus so no idea but I am fascinated by geometry and number theory.

Raven Herd - 6 years, 3 months ago

I like coordinate geometry very much.

I hate trigonometric ratios and identities. Don't ask why.

Kushal Patankar - 6 years, 3 months ago

I like geometry and algebra, but i want to know more about calculus, specifically differential calculus.

Mark Joy Llemit - 6 years, 3 months ago

Hate Euclidean geometry(as of 2nd March,2015). It contains lots of pictures and every time I try to draw a picture, I would mess things up. Many people seem to be able to see through all those messy lines. I can't. I love NT and have recently grown an interest in Combinatorics.
