Should Brilliant introduce books for IMO in points exchange !!!?

Well, I feel that Brilliant should introduce some books for IMO like "fun and thrills of pre - college mathematics, problem solving strategies etc. for the preparation of IMO and other maths olympiads. Well I feel it would be quite useful as there is not enough material online.

This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

When posting on Brilliant:

  • Use the emojis to react to an explanation, whether you're congratulating a job well done , or just really confused .
  • Ask specific questions about the challenge or the steps in somebody's explanation. Well-posed questions can add a lot to the discussion, but posting "I don't understand!" doesn't help anyone.
  • Try to contribute something new to the discussion, whether it is an extension, generalization or other idea related to the challenge.
  • Stay on topic — we're all here to learn more about math and science, not to hear about your favorite get-rich-quick scheme or current world events.

Comments

  • They give you great problems, you not satisfied.
  • They give you ability to discuss with your peers, you are not satisfied.
  • They give you lanyards and T-shirts free of cost( mind you, the shipping charges are quite high), you are not satisfied.
  • They give you classics like Flatland, you are not satisfied.
Now, you want a whole set of tangible stuff. Brilliant! (puns intended). What's next, dinner with Terry Tao?

If you really want to strive for IMO, stop day-dreaming and crack RMO. For RMO, being in level 3 of Brilliant is enough(if you have done the problems without help). Do past papers, that's enough. Problem Solving Strategies is very cheap. You can get it from Flipkart within Rs. 300.

You should've demanded such thing iff registration to Brilliant wasn't free of cost.

Peace.

AD.

Not even the hardest questions on level 5 would make it into the IMO (ok, maybe question 1, maybe).

Gabriel Wong - 8 years, 2 months ago

level 3 is enough?!

I also agree with Siddharth, they must introduce some international olympiad- related books as "points exchange' rather than Indian math olympiad books because very few international olympiad books (especially of the american writers for AMCs and USAMO) are available in India and as they would be helpful for us to prepare better for the RMOs and INMOs.

If you want some IMO related problems and materials, try the website http://imomath.com/

John Errol Obia - 8 years, 3 months ago

Well there are a lot of e-books available free of cost. If the book you require is not available free of cost on the net try to get it from a friend who may have it. I myself have gained a lot from these type of exchanges.

Sambit Senapati - 8 years, 3 months ago

well ithink it is challenges and thrills of pre-college mathematics, not funs and thrills of pre-college mathematics..

Shourya Pandey - 8 years, 3 months ago

No abhishek, i DIDN'T MEAN TO BE GREEDY OR SOMETHING! I m just saying that instead of T-shirts they should give something which can be useful in real life.
