Solutions

I got a question wrong by silly mistake. That was a question for which no solutions were posted. Afterwards , I got the correct answer. But I am unable to post the solution because I got it wrong officially. (that question was very simple, though) . And so, i am unable to share my answers. Should I just accept the truth or can it be changed???

(PS: Sorry for my poor english grammar, and I am not as old as my profile shows ;) )

As of now, there is no way to submit answer if you have got it wrong.

OK, then, is it possible that we might ask the org for submission of solutions even when we've got it wrong???

We decided against "submission of solutions even when wrong", because in the most common use case, what would happen is that people who got the problem wrong will simply submit their "wrong solution", and that ends up spamming the solution discussions with incorrect solutions.

For cases like this, it is definitely preferable to fix the wrong answer for everyone, as opposed to submitting the "correct solution" but not getting anything done.

@Calvin Lin – Okay, I get it. Prevention of wrong answers is considered important than submission of right answers, when we get it wrong. Right. (y) I understand that not many people get this kind of problems. Thanx for throwing light on this Calvin

If you report the problem, I will be able to take a look at it and help to fix it. It is hepful if you can substantiate your report with proper reasoning for the new answer. Once I update the answer, then if you submitted the correct answer, you will be able to submit a solution.

Generally, I give the problem creator 1-2 days to look at their report. If you link me to the report, I will be able to look into it sooner.

I think I misinterpreted your scenario. What you're asking for is the ability to submit solutions even though you wrongly answered the question.

If so, then we currently want to avoid doing so, because we want to reduce the occurrences of bad / completely wrong solutions that make it through. While I understand your use case of "I initially got it wrong, and now I know why I was wrong and would like to explain the actual correct answer", that has an extremely low incidence. Instead, we will end up with "You said that I was wrong, but I don't care and am still going write my own solution". This will be extremely confusing to the community, if the solution discussions become such a mess of random words. (If the problem is indeed wrong, then it should be reported and we will deal with it.)

You can write your solution as a comment on someone else's. Sometimes, if I think that a comment is extremely insightful and relevant, I will convert it into a solution.

It is possible that the community evolves to a stage where people understand the uses of the solution discussion, and use it as intended. At such a point, I will be willing to consider allowing those who answered wrongly to also be able to submit a (correct) solution.
