Is anyone from Malaysia aware of the recent Lahad Datu standoff? I just want some opinions on how the Malaysian government should solve it,how do you think it will end, etc.

This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

When posting on Brilliant:

  • Use the emojis to react to an explanation, whether you're congratulating a job well done , or just really confused .
  • Ask specific questions about the challenge or the steps in somebody's explanation. Well-posed questions can add a lot to the discussion, but posting "I don't understand!" doesn't help anyone.
  • Try to contribute something new to the discussion, whether it is an extension, generalization or other idea related to the challenge.
  • Stay on topic — we're all here to learn more about math and science, not to hear about your favorite get-rich-quick scheme or current world events.

The way the Malaysian police behaved, was no better than the Nazis during WW2.

Asking I.D. documents from people(civilians), then ordering them run, and after shooting them at the back and killing them. Too many atrocities were reported.

The territory has to be returned to the Khiram family, or have any agreement ironed with them.

The well experienced Moro rebels are capable of inflicting serious damages on the Malaysian police and army. 100 years ago a US Brigadier General John Pershing who fought the Moros in Mindanao described them as follows: The fighting was the fiercest I have ever seen... They are absolutely fearless, and once committed to combat they count death as a mere incident."

So it is up to the Malaysians, if they want to have their private Vietnam War.

There are documents of ownership of whom the territory belongs to, and the Maly. Gov. pays due fees yearly.

So it is time they have listened to the real owners of Sabah, or sooner than later, a terror battle will spill into Kuala Lumpur.

To Mr. Tan, I can see that you are an ethnic Chinese in Malaysia.

So my only suggestion for you is to take very seriously your studies and always solve problems on this forum. Do the best to excel, so that one day you can leave Malaysia to the west and become someone.

I don't think it is a hard guess, that your parents too think the same.

Chinese over Asia migrated and spread for livelihood reasons, mostly in trade, and were always envied by the poorer, who could not learn from them how to make fortunes.

The world has changed since, and if one wants to accomplish intellectual goals, better migrate out of that place, and the first step is to complete your studies in a country like Australia, Canada, UK.... This is the best use of a fortune your parents can do for you: Education in any good university in the west, so you will get a foothold in a more open and free society that you can live in the future. Good luck.

I think you're right because there must be a clear agreement before them. this problem can be solved with diplomacy, not with war, well there are many innocent people in Sabah, which are Filipinos, who are suffering from this Exodus.
