Something that's confused me in physics and i need help please
If there's an object on the floor and I displace it upwards by H. then work done by gravity is -mgH and work done by me is mgH. If the force done by me is mg and the force by gravity is -mg , then how did object get displaced in the first place?

You have applied a force in upward direction which is greater than mg .
And therefore the resultant force is in upward direction .Therefore the block has moved upwards

The work done by gravity depends on the change in height. The work done by the force you exert is independent of this change in height.

if i applied a force greater than mg and displaced it by H then how is the work done equal to mgH it should be greater than mgH

@Andrew Mathew Work done is depending upon change in height ,not on how much force you are applying on that block.
