[Staff Post] About notifications on discussions

As some of you may have noticed, we added a notifications feature to brilliant.org/discussions/, that sends you emails when people comment on a discussion you are subscribed to. A few details:

  • When you create a new discussion, you are automatically subscribed to the comments that people make on your discussion. You change this setting here
  • When you comment on a discussion, you are automatically subscribed to the comments made on that discussion. You can change this setting here.
  • You can subscribe (and unsubscribe) to any given discussion using the link at the bottom of that discussion. This is so that you do not have to comment on a discussion in order to subscribe to it.
  • We will not send you a second notification email about a discussion until you view that discussion while you are logged in. This is to avoid sending redundant notifications.

We are happy to see all the excitement on discussions these days. We created a notification system to allow you to stay updated on the discussions you are excited about.

  Easy Math Editor

This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

When posting on Brilliant:

  • Use the emojis to react to an explanation, whether you're congratulating a job well done , or just really confused .
  • Ask specific questions about the challenge or the steps in somebody's explanation. Well-posed questions can add a lot to the discussion, but posting "I don't understand!" doesn't help anyone.
  • Try to contribute something new to the discussion, whether it is an extension, generalization or other idea related to the challenge.
  • Stay on topic — we're all here to learn more about math and science, not to hear about your favorite get-rich-quick scheme or current world events.

How do you unsubcribe

Farida Nazneen - 6 years, 10 months ago

Not sure how I got my email address on this list. When I got an email from here I clicked the unsubscribe button and then it requires me to sign up to unsubscribe to your emails. This seems very counter productive.
