[Staff Post] The Brilliant.org Summer Camp application is now open. Post your questions here.

Hello all,

You may have noticed that information for the Brilliant Summer Camp is now available on the main page. Note that your profile pages now have a new format. To streamline the application process for users that already have accounts we have made your profile page the application. Having a profile does not automatically apply you for the camp. If you completely fill out your new profile and hit the submit button at the bottom of the page your application for stage one of the three stage admittance process will be complete.

All of the details are spelled out in the new webpages associated with the summer camp. There is also a detailed frequently asked questions page. If you have read through these and have additional questions about the summer camp, feel free to email camp@brilliant.org. You can also post questions in this thread and I will try to answer them for you.

Sincerely,

Peter

This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

When posting on Brilliant:

  • Use the emojis to react to an explanation, whether you're congratulating a job well done , or just really confused .
  • Ask specific questions about the challenge or the steps in somebody's explanation. Well-posed questions can add a lot to the discussion, but posting "I don't understand!" doesn't help anyone.
  • Try to contribute something new to the discussion, whether it is an extension, generalization or other idea related to the challenge.
  • Stay on topic — we're all here to learn more about math and science, not to hear about your favorite get-rich-quick scheme or current world events.

Will I have to came alone all the way from India to USA or I will be allowed to come with one of my guardians. I think it is nearly impossible to go to USA alone.

Brilliant will only be for the travel, living, and camp expenses of the admitted students. If necessary we will pay for an unaccompanied minor service through the airline to guide you through air travel. In general, to travel alone internationally, minors need a passport, visa and parental consent.

FYI to all. We will alert you whether or not you have been accepted to stage 2 by email.

I have several question

1.If I take a programming project,do I have to code or just to imagination that I have code it?

2.Do we have to take any test like in Live Challenge for select or you select by project?

3.Does challenge each week(level) we take has affect in select for Summer Camp?

4.Does accepted how project to create a website like a forum with challenge?

Arber,

Answer's to all of these questions can be found on the FAQ page

  1. We expect at this stage, were you to do a programming project, that you at least have a desire to code something, know roughly what you would like to create, and have preferably already started pursuing it on your own.

  2. There will be no live, challenge style test. The decisions will be made based off of all the material in your application. This includes the short answer questions on your profile in round one, and if accepted into round 2, will include a more detailed review of what kind of project you would like to pursue.

  3. You do not have to solve a single question on Brilliant.org in order to apply or be admitted to our summer camp. Your level will have some effect in evaluating your admissions, but it will be the least important criteria. You will mostly be evaluated for the quality of the ambitions of your project, and the amount we think you will potentially gain from an experience like our camp. Your performance on brilliant will be taken into account, but will be the least important criteria in admitting students to the camp. For example, a student who is level two who has an amazing idea for a project, will beat out somebody with a level 5 who has an uninspiring idea for a project.

  4. I am not sure what you mean in this question. Could you clarify it? Are you asking whether or not an acceptable project is to create a website that is a forum, where people discuss challenges?

good luck

Arber,

You can now change your country to Kosovo. We just added it to the country options. There is no need for a birth certificate, we believe you.
