Stanford Summer College

Brilliant is nominating qualified Brilliant members ages 16-19 to attend Stanford’s Summer College for high school students. This 8-week program allows exceptional students to take Stanford college classes on the Stanford campus. We encourage students from every country to apply for the nomination!

How old do I have to be?

Your birthday must be on or after August 22, 1994, and on or before June 23, 1998.

What are the dates of Stanford Summer College?

June 21 - August 17 in Summer 2014.

Are there scholarships or financial aid available?

Yes. If you also would like to receive Brilliant's nomination for financial aid, you must follow the steps below for nomination by the early deadline of April 24, 2014.

What is the benefit of getting Brilliant's nomination?

Brilliant is collaborating with Stanford Pre-Collegiate Studies, to help them vet talented students for their summer programs. If you receive Brilliant's recommendation, your application is guaranteed multiple reads by the admissions committee, which will give you a slightly better chance of being offered admission.

Where can I learn more about the program?

You can learn more at https://spcs.stanford.edu/brilliant

How do I apply for the nomination?

If you’re interested in the program, you can apply for our nomination by going through the following steps on Brilliant:

  • Go to your profile by clicking on your picture in the upper right of the site header
  • Click 'Edit' in the left column to edit your profile
  • Fill out your profile however you see fit to tell us about yourself. Complete 2 of the essay prompts.
  • Complete your address and phone number fields
  • At the bottom of the application, click the “Apply for Stanford Summer College” button. This will reveal a few additional fields for you to complete.
  • Click “Submit” when done.

We will nominate students on a rolling basis, so the earlier you apply the better your chances. The final deadline to submit your profile to us is May 26, 2014.

If you are a finalist for nomination, we will follow up and conduct an interview with you via Skype. If accepted, we will help you complete the rest of the application to Stanford Summer College.

  Easy Math Editor

This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

When posting on Brilliant:

  • Use the emojis to react to an explanation, whether you're congratulating a job well done , or just really confused .
  • Ask specific questions about the challenge or the steps in somebody's explanation. Well-posed questions can add a lot to the discussion, but posting "I don't understand!" doesn't help anyone.
  • Try to contribute something new to the discussion, whether it is an extension, generalization or other idea related to the challenge.
  • Stay on topic — we're all here to learn more about math and science, not to hear about your favorite get-rich-quick scheme or current world events.

Agh, I'm born in Sep 1998 :( These extracurricular nominations seem more frequent in recent months; is Brilliant.org really becoming that popular among colleges and seen as a valuable student source? I'm happy and amazed overall for Brilliant, just too bad that circumstances don't permit me to attend. Also, how many students have been nominated in the past for these events?

Nilanjan Debnath - 7 years, 1 month ago

It's really stupid on how they base it on age for the bulk of the qualifications. Considering Stanford, I would think they would at least make some compromises for kids that are above average though don't really make those age limits. :'(

asdf asdf - 7 years, 1 month ago

I've done everything but the most I've seen is that they asked me where I first heard about the program. I selected Brilliant.org. Is that all I need to do.

Has anyone been here? My younger sister really wanted to get into their summer college but we're not entirely sure about this idea. Some summer colleges scare potential students with how hard they have to work. Not that it is bad but for highschoolers it might be a bit too much. I was hoping to find a place that will inspire her to further develop her math and analytics skills. Should she try?

Eveline Heston - 2 years ago

OMG! i am born in September 1998.........isn't there anything that could help me out!
