Suggestion box

I do not know if there is an official suggestion box for the Brilliant community. Hence I'm making one so that we can share our ideas in order to make brilliant.org a better experience. Having used this for a while, I feel that day-to-day users have a lot to offer.

Please post your ideas and views. Be modest with number of comments/posts as it tends to make notes cluttered and unreadable for the staff, moderators and the general public. Upvote ideas you like rather than commenting on them unnecessarily.

Easy Math Editor

This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

When posting on Brilliant:

Use the emojis to react to an explanation, whether you're congratulating a job well done , or just really confused .
Ask specific questions about the challenge or the steps in somebody's explanation. Well-posed questions can add a lot to the discussion, but posting "I don't understand!" doesn't help anyone.
Try to contribute something new to the discussion, whether it is an extension, generalization or other idea related to the challenge.
Stay on topic — we're all here to learn more about math and science, not to hear about your favorite get-rich-quick scheme or current world events.

I really want to know why Sir David Mattingly is not active anymore , because physics seems to be really taking a downside turn in Brilliant nowadays, When Sir David was active, there were so many beautiful questions he posted which i still solve now and enjoy, and there were so many discussions about interesting topics of physics.

And now it seems like very few are caring for Physics on brilliant. I hope it is a temporary absence and sir will one day be back to give us more problems.

Brilliant really needs a physics adminstrator like Sir @Calvin lin is there for Maths

I do not know the names of any other staff/moderators. But if you are one, please help out with this!

Here are the first few things that I think are worth mentioning:

About the readability of popular notes/problems: The current design of the commenting system makes it difficult to read multiple solutions or get to the comment you want to. Maybe a collapse button or something like that might help? This is also the case in computer science questions where programs tend to take up a lot of space. A collapse button for this might also help. By a "collapse button", I mean a feature which enables the user to view only the comments that he/she wants to. If the user clicks this button, the comments on an answer will become visible. A second click will collapse these comments.

2.About notifications: Notes, when made by popular persons tend to go viral and fill up the notifications tab. Is there a way that you guys can maybe join similar notifications into one? For example: instead of

abc commented on xyz message board. dfe commented on xyz messageboard

we can have:

2 people have commented on xyz messageboard.

Thanks for your suggestions. We will take them into consideration as we develop these functionalities further.

We will look into being able to collapse threads. I am less comfortable with collapsing solutions though.
Notifications is still a very new feature, and we are working on building up it's functionality. There are several improvements to it that will occur in the near future.

I am not going for collapsing whole solutions either. Just the comments to a solution. About the computer science questions, a feature which hides the code unless the user wishes to see it. If you have seen the answer forums of project euler, you will know what I'm talking about.

Diminishing interest in physics, nonexistent interest in computer science.

Recently, people have been showing very little interest in the above topics. The number of new problems that are posted have gone down. People who have interest in these topics are becoming inactive since nothing new comes up anymore. It's a vicious cycle. Please do suggest ways to revive the interest.
