  Easy Math Editor

This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

When posting on Brilliant:

  • Use the emojis to react to an explanation, whether you're congratulating a job well done , or just really confused .
  • Ask specific questions about the challenge or the steps in somebody's explanation. Well-posed questions can add a lot to the discussion, but posting "I don't understand!" doesn't help anyone.
  • Try to contribute something new to the discussion, whether it is an extension, generalization or other idea related to the challenge.
  • Stay on topic — we're all here to learn more about math and science, not to hear about your favorite get-rich-quick scheme or current world events.

My vote to Sir Isaac newton

Tanishq Varshney - 6 years ago

I feel we are not yet experienced enough to choose and appreciate mathematicians.

Abhishek Sharma - 6 years ago

You are right! I agree. We don't know the contributions of all mathematicians so well that we can choose one.

It's like if you ask a 5th grader about his favourite mathematician, he would probably say Pythagoras.

But still, this is not the "Best Mathematician Survey", this is the "Favourite Mathematician Survey".

Thanks for sharing your opinion about it. :)

Archit Boobna - 6 years ago

Sir Isaac Newton for inventing Calculus (my favourite topic)!

Fermat beacuse of Fermat's Last Theorem and his method of Infinite Descent.

Great Choice! Thanks for Voting!

Archit Boobna - 6 years ago

I don't get why this comment was downvoted two times! There's been a lot of nonsensical downvoting going on nowadays.

Prasun Biswas - 6 years ago

eiπ+1=0e^{i\pi} + 1 = 0. It is Leonhard Euler for me.

Chew-Seong Cheong - 6 years ago

I was waiting for someone to vote for him. Now Euler has 8 votes.

Archit Boobna - 6 years ago

Voted for Sir Gauss

pawan dogra - 6 years ago

Great ! Me too

Rajdeep Dhingra - 6 years ago

"Read Euler, read Euler, he is the master of us all."

Raghav Vaidyanathan - 6 years ago

But I voted for Srinivasa Ramanujan because reasons.

Raghav Vaidyanathan - 6 years ago

People tend to vote for him.

Archit Boobna - 6 years ago

Voting for some one does not mean that one has no respect for others. Any one getting less votes does not mean again that he is not respected. There are many factors that decided favorite. And it is different for each voter. Theoretically one getting no vote can be the the second choice of all voters ! Just to put thing in balanced perspective.

Niranjan Khanderia - 2 years, 11 months ago

I admire every one of them but i gave my vote to Srinivasan Ramanujan. After all he is The man who knew infinity

Aditya Chauhan - 6 years ago

What does that mean?

The man who knew infinity

That sounds good! Can you explain why you are calling him "The man who knew infinity"?

Archit Boobna - 6 years ago

His biography is named as The man who knew infinity. Probably because of his contributions in infinite series.

Aditya Chauhan - 6 years ago

@Aditya Chauhan Were you able to vote 4 times?

Archit Boobna - 6 years ago

My favorite mathematician is Paul Erdos but here I voted Leonhard Euler

Kalpok Guha - 6 years ago

Don't hate me but I love Fermat.

Kunal Verma - 6 years ago

Euler and Ramanujan. It was a difficult choice but I chose for the former because whichever article I read, it most probably has one name for sure.

Kartik Sharma - 5 years, 11 months ago

I think one more name should also be included Terrence Tau.

Siddharth Singh - 6 years ago

That is a good idea, but I had already put too many names and had still a few left in my mind. Sorry for that. :(
