Hi everyone,

I recently wrote this problem, and I was wondering why only 1 person solved it. To make my future problem-writing better, it would be great if you could take this survey.

This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

When posting on Brilliant:

Hey Daniel, the reason that your problem hasn't been solved by many people is that not many people have seen it yet. Right now, we are still in the process of building the social graph on Brilliant (i.e., the number of people who follow each other). Until the people who write problems and notes amass lots of followers, there isn't a good way for other users to find out that such problems and notes exist. One way that we deal with this right now is by resharing problems and notes via the "Best of" feeds, which have a lot of followers by default (everyone who completed a diagnostic in a topic is following the Best of feed for that topic). I spoke with our CS Challenge Master and she told me that your problem had been approved for resharing by "Best of Computer Science," and is queued to be reshared at some point tomorrow, at which point much of the community will see your problem and attempt to solve it. I suppose you are right. The reason I thought many people would have seen it is because I thought more people use the /all link, like I do. I suppose that most people don't, yeah.

Also, how does resharing work? How are problems selected for resharing?

Hey Daniel, not a lot of people use the /all/ link. It's a beta feature and the only way you would know about it is if you read through the end of the post "The New Brilliant," and there isn't an easy way to get to it from the interface.

We are working to make sure that people who are creators of problems and notes on the site amass a large following, so that their creations will be seen by lots of Brilliant members. For now, our way of doing that is by resharing promising notes and posts via topic feeds, which lots of users already follow. When your problem or note is reshared, users will also see a little "Follow" link next to your name. Once users follow you, they'll be able to see your posts even if they're not reshared by a topic feed.

It's our goal to make sure that good creators have lots of followers, so as long as you're creating good material for the community, Brilliant will be working to promote it so that lots of people see it.
