Take a Drop or Not !

In response to Manish Bhargao's query, ( Please read it completely, It will definitely help your decision to take a good shape.)

If you're interested in Engineering truly, then I will recommend you to take a drop for one year and prepare for JEE so that you can get admission into a Good Engineering college where your talent will not be suppressed, and you will get opportunities to prove yourself from time to time.

If you drop, then you’re not going to loose anything :\large \text{If you drop, then you're not going to loose anything :} I am telling you about a time of my life. I always stood as an intelligent student during my school days, but in 11th, 12th class I didn't get good teachers in the school from where I passed my senior secondary education. Due to that, my knowledge was ceased and my perception about myself at that time was that I am very dumb student who don't know anything and I was very much frustrated.

Mathematics was my favorite subject since my childhood. And A test of Maths was conducted in my school in the month of December (two months ago my CBSE 12th final exams) and I attempted only 19 Marks question paper out of 100. I returned form the school and I was in a very deep state of depression. It felt like that I'm going to fail in 12th school. But then onwards, I started studying and I got 90% marks in CBSE(12th) and 95 Marks in Mathematics.

And the truth of the matter is that I got 95 in Maths because I learnt all the formulas and practiced a lot of question for the preparation of Board. But I was having ZERO LEVEL understanding in the concepts of Mathematics. I could not say with confidence that I am good at Maths. And you know that when did I realise this ? The answer is in my Drop Year.

Today I'm very Good at Maths and the only reason behind this is my decision to take a Drop. Yeah, I agree that I dropped for one year so that I can get admission into IIT. And I failed for that. But I never regret about my that decision, Instead of that I always feel blesses due to that decision. In that year, I achieved my mastery in understanding the concepts of Mathematics, ( I was very good at Physical Chemistry, but I was very weak at Physics and Inorganic, Organic Chemistry). And due to that I'm standing at a respectable level today. You will face several challenges in that year i.e. depression, marks, concepts, parents' expectations, self-expectations, and many more stuffs. which will make you enough strong to handle every further situation of life. You'll definitely commit mistakes, but that will give you a priceless experience. You'll try to deal with multiple things at the same (doesn't matter whether you fail or pass in that), at least you tried which is definitely priceless.

Today I can guide the students only due to such experiences. I can motivate them to do something Great only because I've tried it on myself. I will tell you because I've taken the actions first, I've applied it first on myself. Today I have the potential to think of Big Dreams and goals and make them come true, only because I gave a start to this in that year.

I can give you hundreds of reasons to take a drop with one complete surety that you're going to loose nothing.

One negative thing you may have in your mind about this decision that I will waste my one year if I don't get admission in a good college even after that drop. But keep this thing also in your mind that you're not wasting the year, but you're investing it to boost up yourself, your capabilities, your ideas, your knowledge, your understanding and to learn the art of dealing with many difficult situations of life. One year time matters nothing in front of such experiences, knowledge.

There is a huge difference between waste and invest. And you're investing this year, not wasting !

You have an opportunity to prove yourself :\large \text{You have an opportunity to prove yourself :} I strongly believe that we are born free with no boundations, with no limitations. Limitations are just mere thinking of our mind that we impose on ourselves forcefully.

Take a Big Dream this year and prove yourself over there.

Okay. I am giving you a challenge today to get AIR1AIR-1 in JEE-Advanced-2016. Accept it and move forward to win this challenge.

Always keep it in mind that whatever will be your result in 2016, that will be totally a conclusion of what you will do during this Drop year. If you will study with full dedication, If you will create a curiosity to gain the knowledge of your subjects up to the JEE-Level, If you will learn the management of time, and stress and management of many more things, the none is there to stop you from getting over your challenge.

One of the best quotes by Swami Vivekanand Ji :

And this is not a Risk, this is an Opportunity. And may be you will never get another opportunity like this ever in the life. So Go ahead, take it and prove yourself.

Sure I am that this day we are the masters of our fate, that the task that has been set before us is not above our strength, that its pangs and toils are not beyond my endurance.

As long as we have faith in our own cause and an unconquerable will to win, victory will not be denied us.

So finally I will recommend you to take a drop, give your best this year, have big and long visionary goals. Study with full dedication to gain the real knowledge, which you're definitely going to achieve this year.

All the best my dear !\text{All the best my dear !}

This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

When posting on Brilliant:

  • Use the emojis to react to an explanation, whether you're congratulating a job well done , or just really confused .
  • Ask specific questions about the challenge or the steps in somebody's explanation. Well-posed questions can add a lot to the discussion, but posting "I don't understand!" doesn't help anyone.
  • Try to contribute something new to the discussion, whether it is an extension, generalization or other idea related to the challenge.
  • Stay on topic — we're all here to learn more about math and science, not to hear about your favorite get-rich-quick scheme or current world events.

Many people do not realize how education is actually investing in their own human potential for the future. The skills that you pick up when learning a new subject, will be relevant when you are learning at your workplace and allow you to apply yourself further. The way you organize your thoughts and organize the infrastructure to store your knowledge, will allow you to recognize such systems in future and make it easier to understand them.

Thank you so much for this..... I gave my JEE MAINS 2016-17 and got only 62 but I was also Thinking of a drop But was really confused whether to take it or not.

From the day I had Interest in engineering I always wanted to study about automobile engineering But when the result of JEE Mains came I was a little worried about myself and about the Expectations by my family.

I had already discussed this topic with my father but he would always ask whether I could be able to do it or not and I always said I would be able to do it but I am still worried..... From their thoughts about me whether I would be able to do it after an year drop...... But now I am confident enough to seek my future through this I shall prepare for JEE advanced at my full scale and try to score the maximum

Once again thank you very much for this motivational talk about this important topic about which every engineering students worries

Ratul Sharma - 4 years, 1 month ago

WoW,That's quite daring,I mean going for self study,I appreciate your decision.Ofcourse it depends from person to person but my experience had not been that much gud..All of now,I wish u all the best..bt u will need lot of dedication and determination for that....dude keep trying and don't let depression or any sort of distraction take over you..and be sure about this decision....................... as i said my personal experience was not gud..actually I let depression took over me(looking my fellow classmates being ahead of me) and started making excuses from myself.

& lets see who will get AIR-1

sachin mittal - 6 years ago

@Sachin Mittal Thanks.....well in these two years...I realized that these coaching classes just try to make us stay under pressure and work and at the end of the day hardly something comes out of it.....so I decided to go for self study... All the best for you too.....Mission AIR-1

Oky,if i take a drop, then in which institue i should go for? @Sandeep Bhardwaj Bansal classes or resonance in quota or go in fiitjee(delhi) or any other? I am currently living in delhi.

Akhil Bansal - 5 years, 11 months ago

Challenge accepted.. My story is similar to u sir. I choose wrong teachers and no concept is clear. I drop my next year

ÄncHäl Arørä - 3 years, 10 months ago

I am thinking to do optical engineering. IIST offers it. I was in the same situation as you were in 11th. Instead of Maths, Physics is my favorite subject. I found Physics teaching in +2 rubbish. I suffered a lot scoring mere 36 out of 70 in the final exams of 11th. I am currently in 12th. I am thinking of taking a drop after 12th to give JEE. But my parents disagree. They want to me get into any engineering college and do the fucking B.Tech and get packages and earn money. How can I convince my parents?? @Sandeep Bhardwaj please help.

Jaideep Goswami - 3 years ago

Sir I never thought of engineering till my 12th I just studied simple books I was a up board student and ncert books were not taught to us then I took a year drop for iit jee I did my best but got a rank of 65k in mains and now I want to take a drop another year for myself but everyone literally everyone around me advices me not to which makes my decision weaker day by day. Please help me.
