This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

When posting on Brilliant:

  • Use the emojis to react to an explanation, whether you're congratulating a job well done , or just really confused .
  • Ask specific questions about the challenge or the steps in somebody's explanation. Well-posed questions can add a lot to the discussion, but posting "I don't understand!" doesn't help anyone.
  • Try to contribute something new to the discussion, whether it is an extension, generalization or other idea related to the challenge.
  • Stay on topic — we're all here to learn more about math and science, not to hear about your favorite get-rich-quick scheme or current world events.

HC Verma and IE Irodov For Physics is the must

I E Irodov is not really a must have book . It's just for those who want to do it .

Many of my friends are studying in IITs and they didn't even buy that book . Mostly , it's just a popular folklore that Irodov is a must for clearing JEE .

However , for clearing the NSEP level exams , it'll be a bad choice not to use it .

Well, I think Studying Physics should be aimed to acquire knowledge , not to clear any examination. Irodov is a must as it tests your foundation skills

Swapnil Das - 6 years, 2 months ago

@Swapnil Das Yeah, I agree with you that everyone must acquire knowledge first . But do you think that everyone can get to like a subject just because others like it ?

It's almost as if you are making Jahnvi believe that to gain knowledge in Physics, you must solve that book . You aren't making your point very clear , that's what I wanted to point out .

Don't get me wrong :)

@Shubhendra Singh I'm also 13 by my birth certificate.

Swapnil Das - 6 years, 2 months ago

@Shubhendra Singh As of now , I don't do . Actually I have never felt the need to do so . I practice from my Resonance DLPD material and for extra knowledge , I refer to Resnick , Halliday and here .

A Former Brilliant Member - 6 years, 2 months ago

@A Former Brilliant Member And which books you use for maths BTW I'm from Resonance(Kota).

Shubhendra Singh - 6 years, 2 months ago

@Shubhendra Singh Haha , I have a cupboard full of Maths books!

Frankly if I were to suggest you Maths books , go for the Reso Books itself , especially some of the DLPD books contain really good theory .(I'm sure @Pranjal Jain will agree with me too ) You know this time , he's gonna come out to be JEE AIR 1 .

Coming back to the topic , some of the books that I have are :

  • Coordinate Geo , Integral Calc , Differential Calc . from Arihant

  • Higher Algebra (H&K)

  • Coord. Geo by SL Loney

  • and the rest are just ebooks and the wikis from that I downloaded from the Internet .

@A Former Brilliant Member Is Higher Algebra beneficial for a student of Class 9( As I brought a copy a week ago)?

Swapnil Das - 6 years, 2 months ago

@Swapnil Das I have learnt Synthetic Division and Theory of Equations from there , I really don't know much about the rest . Sorry .

A Former Brilliant Member - 6 years, 2 months ago

@Swapnil Das It's a great book you must surely try it.

Shubhendra Singh - 6 years, 2 months ago

@A Former Brilliant Member Ye I too agree with you as I have gone through reso books and they really good (that's why I chose reso :P). Which coaching are you from ??

Shubhendra Singh - 6 years, 2 months ago

@Shubhendra Singh Actually it's a not so good coaching centre called IIT Ashram , based in Vadodara . It's really bad , I just regret joining it since I had to do all the hard work myself , there's no one to help you there .

My abilities had diminished because of the teaching there . So I had to do a lot of hard work on my own from last December to become what I am now .

@A Former Brilliant Member Don't worry bro your Hard Work will surely help you reaching Bombay.

@Shubhendra Singh Thanks :)

A Former Brilliant Member - 6 years, 2 months ago

@A Former Brilliant Member Indeed! Reso's material and faculties both are awesome. I will miss them in IIT.

As far as books are concerned, I prefer reso's material (I don't know about dlp, I am from classroom). I usually do TMH for Maths, MS Chauhan's book (HOD, Organic, Vibrant), Deb Mukherjee and HCV for physics. And of course, previous years papers (40 years). The order of importance is Reso Material>JEE previous years' question>Other books.

@Azhaghu Roopesh M I won't get JEE 1, very obviously. There are many contenders like you and Ronak for that rank.

Pranjal Jain - 6 years, 2 months ago

You can have Higher Algebra and Problems in Mathematics for Mathematics BTW I'm also entering in class 11.

Shubhendra Singh - 6 years, 2 months ago

You should prefer books of cengage publication for jee advanced .
