I have been trying to get that what actually tensor is? We say moment of inertia is a tensor ,some people say it is a tensor because it has different directions at different points ! If any of you could satisfy me Please send me the answer to improve this problem

This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

Scalar properties have only magnitude (e.g. temperature) •Vector properties have magnitude & direction (e.g. force) •Tensor : Tensorial properties have magnitude direction & a plane acting on (e.g. stress ) Mathematically speaking, tensor is a matrix, which follows special transfer rules
