This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

Hooray for software engineers!
A mathematician For sure!
A Physicist !

I certainly wonder why physicists aren't included in this list. But some articles say that one of the worst jobs in science is being a theoretical physicist, and it's alleged that it's because so many of the top models being developed, such as string theory, supersymmetry theory, quantum loop gravity, etc. have had practitioners working on them for decades with nothing to show for them experimentally. The Higgs model was a success, but the others, well, not so much, not yet. It's supposed to be science, but for many, it feels like it's faith-based. Waiting for mathematics to show its "unreasonable effectiveness".

Totally agree with you. Recently I heard about this problem (That theoretical physicists are the worst profession in the field of mathematics). Personally, I don't understand this.
Pure mathematics seems like heaven to me. Hope I get a career as a researcher.
A Theoretical Physicist; I like Physics!
This sounds great! I saw this at https://writingcreek.com/grant-writing/ among their grant writing jobs lists. I am actually surprised that data scientists are not higher on the list since in 2019, they are one of the most valuable (and rare) professionals. I would also like to see the same list dedicated to the best freelance jobs since more and more people choose it instead of working full-time in the office. Hopefully, we will see it sometime soon.

Seems interesting!
@Pranjal Jain An actuary is someone who deals with financial uncertainties of the future .With tightening regulations worldwide there is great scope for the job in the banking ,insurance and healthcare .Anyone with love for mathematics and statistics can surely give a shot at these exams .The path to become one in each country is different
A mathematician!!!!!!
Software Engineer
Oh! A mathematician!
Software engineer.

How do we find the 'unit'& 'tenth' place of a number when it is given in power form i.e. n^x?
A Physicst (Mechanics)! I have as much affinity for it as there is affinity for chlorine towards electrons! :P
@Calvin Lin Thank you very much for posting this and opening for discussion !! I saw this thing just now .Does this list hold good even for 2017 curious to know .I am guessing it will .What makes an actuary the best job is it because of the tough exams with low selective ratio ? I heard somewhere that Nobel laureate Milton Friedman couldnt clear the actuary exams and had to become an economist Not sure about it
A cosmologist, an astrophysicist and a mathematician

I think, nowadays, we have to much different jobs and that mean that I can't agree with your top.
Biomedical Engineer was the best job in 2015? All right, let's say.
how to make a career in mathematics...?
Pretty easy. There are a lot of doors that mathematics opens up to you. People are appreciative for the rigor and thought processes that get developed as you explore further in mathematics. There will be many jobs that will be reliant on Mathematics and Computer Science in the near future. These will include jobs that do not yet exist!
Actuary has actually become my dream all the time...
