The Brilliant App

A lot of phones still use Android 2.2 and above. Can/will the brilliant app be made available for this OS version or will it be restricted to 4.1 and above?

This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

When posting on Brilliant:

  • Use the emojis to react to an explanation, whether you're congratulating a job well done , or just really confused .
  • Ask specific questions about the challenge or the steps in somebody's explanation. Well-posed questions can add a lot to the discussion, but posting "I don't understand!" doesn't help anyone.
  • Try to contribute something new to the discussion, whether it is an extension, generalization or other idea related to the challenge.
  • Stay on topic — we're all here to learn more about math and science, not to hear about your favorite get-rich-quick scheme or current world events.

Hi Tanishq,

We will start supporting earlier versions of Android based on demand. The next step would likely be Android 3.0. We will only support as old as 2.2 if significant portions of our member base are on that platform.

Have you been able to download the app, or are you excluded due to an old OS?

I've been excluded to an old OS. Even my tablet at best supports 4.0, and my phone is stuck on 2.2.

As an additional curiosity, what elements of the app are causing it to be a 4.1 only right now? Is it elements of the code itself or was it simply a choice when the app was written?

I want the app to support 2.2

We do too! But... we have no plans at this time of supporting Android v2.2 -- too expensive to do so.
