The Point System Should Come Back

Here is why the point system should come back.

Brilliant.org, in the past, would reward you prizes after scoring enough points.

I think that the rewards should come back because they provide an incentive to solve math problems on this website everyday. Sure, most people come here to learn, study, or practice math, but their overall objective is the same as many others who are good at math: It is to work for that 25,000 points and receive a prize. It provides that extra push to come here and solve the hardest possible problems.

Newcomers may ask themselves: Why do I need to solve problems here if I can just as easily sign up on a different website that provides the same needs?

My answer to this early on, was mainly the prizes and then the interesting problems.

Now, I ask this question to myself now: Why would I need to solve problems here every week if I know most of the material and is already in the higher levels?

Ok, I'm done. Sorry for the overall negative (and biased) point of view and thanks for taking the time to read my post.

This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

When posting on Brilliant:

  • Use the emojis to react to an explanation, whether you're congratulating a job well done , or just really confused .
  • Ask specific questions about the challenge or the steps in somebody's explanation. Well-posed questions can add a lot to the discussion, but posting "I don't understand!" doesn't help anyone.
  • Try to contribute something new to the discussion, whether it is an extension, generalization or other idea related to the challenge.
  • Stay on topic — we're all here to learn more about math and science, not to hear about your favorite get-rich-quick scheme or current world events.

For your information, I think it's connected to the new rating system. Which is every time I clicked any problem and didn't finish it, then my rating would goes down. It seems like brilliant wants to give me an addition to my homework. Well it's not fun anymore solving the problems here but I still like this website so please rethink again about your system, brilliant. Because I think this website is another alternative of learning. It's not the main source to learn and to make me play brilliant in front of the computer all the day long. Thank you. Sorry if there's any grammar mistake.

As far as I know, your problem solving level (1 through 5) will not go down from just looking at problems. I do think that Brilliant takes off too many points for just wanting to look at a problem though. This makes it difficult to increase your points.

I do not think the point exchange system is gone for good. You can see that Brilliant keeps track of your points in the bottom left corner of the home screen.

I am fairly certain that the people at Brilliant are focusing on getting the new layout to run smoothly. After that they will re-establish the prize system
