The time at Brilliant.org

Finally , I have over 1,00,000 points. Solving a few 400 points is good enough. Back to the time when I was in class 10, I joined brilliant through an advertisement on facebook and suggestion of my friend , Ishan Tarunesh. I saw the level 5 questions and just thought how intelligent those people are... Some like mursalin, sharky and daniel. Who solve nearly all of them and got level 4 or 5 in most. While I still struggled through level 3. And now after these 1 and a half year, I practiced hard , as you all know that jee still remains a nightmare. Now I have got level 5 in each subject except Finance(nothing to do with me). It was a fun solving problems but difficult to post. I am good in physics but problem get ratings after a very long time.

Now the jee exam is approaching as well as my 17th birthday. WOW! Cant believe I am just 16 years old. :) . Now I am more confident in mathematics and physics and hope the chemistry section of here will advance too in near future. I will not be available here now until jee is over. And Surely enough I will join again after that to solve few geometry and chemistry section then and try to get some questions for level 5 in chemistry(physical).

TILL THEN BYE AND BEST OF LUCK TO ALL. -pranjalpranjal

This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

When posting on Brilliant:

  • Use the emojis to react to an explanation, whether you're congratulating a job well done , or just really confused .
  • Ask specific questions about the challenge or the steps in somebody's explanation. Well-posed questions can add a lot to the discussion, but posting "I don't understand!" doesn't help anyone.
  • Try to contribute something new to the discussion, whether it is an extension, generalization or other idea related to the challenge.
  • Stay on topic — we're all here to learn more about math and science, not to hear about your favorite get-rich-quick scheme or current world events.

How about you use Brilliant to learn some Finance stuff too?

Well, as I said it's the only stuff I am in level 3 of course. Otherwise I was planning to give jee as well as aipmt till one of my friends said AIIMS will not let me in if I haven't chosen bio stream. Anyhow , I am still going to give the exams....well I can at least do all physics and chemistry stuff there.

Congrats! I look forward to seeing problems shared by you too, so that you can challenge the rest of the community.

I often try to post them but it's a bit frustrating when I type them wrong or miss out some points . Also the problems that are really good are still unrated after 3 weeks and it it difficult to keep these things with a person with so little perservence. :) .

The way ratings are determined are:

  1. The problem creator or moderator gives it an initial seed level. We state that it is "Level pending (100 points)".
  2. The community works on the problem.
  3. After enough people have worked on it and we have become more confident that the rating is accurate, we will release the level of the problem.

Thus, the best way to get your problems rated are
1. Set a rating when you create the problem
2. Make the problem interesting to others and easy to understand.

Can you link me to 3-5 problems of yours that you think should be rated? I can add seed levels to those that say "Level pending (10 points)", and for those that are already seeded I can reshare what I think are good problems.

@Pranjal Prashant The phrasing and presentation of these problems can certainly be improved on. I've made a few simple edits to make the problem more accessible.

@Calvin Lin Thanks. I am presently working on PROBLEMS POSTING SKILLS. I have a good collection of problems created by myself but it is difficult to type all of those in latex. P.S.-It's the very first time I realize that posting problems requires somehow more skills than solving them :) :) :)

@Pranjal Prashant Yes indeed they do. The best ones are those which simply communicate what is interesting about the problem, and why someone would want to spend time to solve it.

Calvin Lin Staff - 5 years, 8 months ago

Best of luck brother. I have my JEE too. Let's do our best. :-) You are an all level 5 guy. Hmm, great. Have you your boards too?
