Themed Problem Challenge!

I'm starting a new series of challenges! For these challenges, you will be given a topic, and you will have to write a problem with that topic as the theme! Try to be creative and fun.

This week's challenge is Frozen! Post a link to your problem in the discussion below, and look at other people's problems. I will review all submitted problems! Enjoy, have fun, and don't forget to like and reshare! :D

  Easy Math Editor

This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

When posting on Brilliant:

  • Use the emojis to react to an explanation, whether you're congratulating a job well done , or just really confused .
  • Ask specific questions about the challenge or the steps in somebody's explanation. Well-posed questions can add a lot to the discussion, but posting "I don't understand!" doesn't help anyone.
  • Try to contribute something new to the discussion, whether it is an extension, generalization or other idea related to the challenge.
  • Stay on topic — we're all here to learn more about math and science, not to hear about your favorite get-rich-quick scheme or current world events.

What is the case for 1? 1 is neither prime nor composite.

Congrats! You've won this weeks competition! I'll be making the official announcement soon, but you had a really great problem. I hope I win your competition (JOMO 4). :D

Yan Yau helped write it, and he is the creator of the competition. I'm excited for the next one! Should you do anime as you hinted, I have a couple good ideas from Attack on Titan that I hope I will contribute. (But if you don't, that's fine as well. I'll wait.)

I've updated your comment so that it links directly. You can edit your comment to see how I did it.

That is an interesting question. Can you add a solution to it?

Sorry was inactive for a bit due to exams, I've posted a solution which (I hope) makes sense

Charlton Teo - 7 years, 1 month ago

Sorry, but I don't usually theme my problems, so I won't join. However, this idea sounds pretty cool.

Finn Hulse - 7 years, 1 month ago

I love that movie too! Going to post some problems to give Hans a lesson! haha...

Christopher Boo - 7 years, 1 month ago

I kind of missed my deadline of 4/13 because of schoolwork, but hopefully I'll release a lot of themed questions in mid June. If you look at my sets list you'll see an empty set I'll be filling soon. (I do kind of theme questions already, but they're the wrong characters that are part of the theme.)

But if you come up with a theme I know a decent amount about (anime, maybe?), I'll hopefully release some problem(s) relating to it!

Trevor B. - 7 years, 1 month ago

Or perhaps Homestuck?

I might mention that you got me addicted to homestuck... :P

Daniel Liu - 7 years, 1 month ago

@Daniel Liu Seriously? Wow, what act are you on?

But Homestuck probably isn't a very good theme because a lot of people wouldn't get past the first couple acts because they'd find it boring, in addition to the fact that the whole thing is 6000 pages and 700,000 words long.

But I will be making a set in June to celebrate 6/12.

Trevor B. - 7 years, 1 month ago

Wait till next week... Hint hint. :D

Finn Hulse - 7 years, 1 month ago

I will try to make a problem but I haven't watched Frozen so I don't know the characters.

Sharky Kesa - 7 years, 1 month ago

@Finn Hulse The movie Epic or just epic? I have watched Epic.

Sharky Kesa - 7 years, 1 month ago

@Sharky Kesa No, I was just saying that's epic, but Epic would be a good theme... ;)
