This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

When posting on Brilliant:

  • Use the emojis to react to an explanation, whether you're congratulating a job well done , or just really confused .
  • Ask specific questions about the challenge or the steps in somebody's explanation. Well-posed questions can add a lot to the discussion, but posting "I don't understand!" doesn't help anyone.
  • Try to contribute something new to the discussion, whether it is an extension, generalization or other idea related to the challenge.
  • Stay on topic — we're all here to learn more about math and science, not to hear about your favorite get-rich-quick scheme or current world events.

I think the answer is (b)LUCIFER

This is because, the Banshee says, You start reading when, begin the night or day then, which I assume means start reading the clocks from the time where night and day end, which is 12:00.

Now, the closest to 12 is the second clock, which shows something close to 1:00, and the hour hand points to L. Next is the bottom right clock, whose hour hand points to U. And so on, checking where the hour hands of every clock point gives us LUCIFER.

This is what I think @pratibha srivastava

@Percy Jackson is right. However, I think the rhymed instructions were intended to reveal a hidden message in the clocks, which would then give instructions for finding the password.

If you start at the top of each clock ("begin the night or day"), and read the letters going either clockwise or counterclockwise ("around the clock you read time"), you'll find a word hidden in each one, ignoring the extra letters. The words, put together, form the sentences "Arrange clocks increasing order time. Display hour" (I think). Though slightly ambiguous, this clue is supposed to indicate that after arranging the clocks in chronological order (1:00, 2:00 and so on), we must read ("display") the letter which each hour hand is pointing to. Doing so, we obtain the correct password, "Lucifer".

Thanks! You can also find other words mixed in just for fun, like "donuts". :)
