Too few chances and choices

On multiple choice questions, I often do them fast and sometimes get it wrong first. I think more tries would be much better, and to make sure there aren't too many guesses, there could also be more choices.

This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

When posting on Brilliant:

  • Use the emojis to react to an explanation, whether you're congratulating a job well done , or just really confused .
  • Ask specific questions about the challenge or the steps in somebody's explanation. Well-posed questions can add a lot to the discussion, but posting "I don't understand!" doesn't help anyone.
  • Try to contribute something new to the discussion, whether it is an extension, generalization or other idea related to the challenge.
  • Stay on topic — we're all here to learn more about math and science, not to hear about your favorite get-rich-quick scheme or current world events.

Comments

If you got more than one try the chances of guessing the answer right would be too high.

Yeah exactly so I think there should be more choices, like 8.

Making eight good choices takes quite a bit more time and can be overwhelming.

@Silas Hundt Yeah, I thought about that. It's just that I think that too few choices makes silly mistakes too influential. I am not sure what the best solution is, it isn't too bad now, but I just have trouble with it.

@Daniel Chiu Maybe, spend points for another try?

Silas Hundt Staff - 7 years, 4 months ago

@Silas Hundt Yeah I guess that is possible, but as points don't really serve a purpose now it seems like everyone would do that... Will point exchange or something similar come back?

Daniel Chiu - 7 years, 4 months ago

Well, it's awfully exhausting to think of 8 answer choices for certain problems. And having more than one guess would be huge difference! I mean, seriously! Any wacko could just solve 4 easy problems and then just use those points to solve like a Level 5!

Finn Hulse - 7 years, 4 months ago

Hmm... Pretty sure you get 3 tries before you are ineligible. Or did that get "patched"?

You only get 1 try on multiple choice problems... unless you've discovered some sort of bug. In which case, please tell me how to reproduce it!
