my physics is very weak. I need some ultimate physics book which contain sufficient explanatory theory of very good concepts and also contains ultimate problems. please help me.

This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

When posting on Brilliant:

  • Use the emojis to react to an explanation, whether you're congratulating a job well done , or just really confused .
  • Ask specific questions about the challenge or the steps in somebody's explanation. Well-posed questions can add a lot to the discussion, but posting "I don't understand!" doesn't help anyone.
  • Try to contribute something new to the discussion, whether it is an extension, generalization or other idea related to the challenge.
  • Stay on topic — we're all here to learn more about math and science, not to hear about your favorite get-rich-quick scheme or current world events.

Comments

  1. University Physics by Freedman and Young ( Amazing Book)
  2. Concepts in Physics by H.C Verma (Two volumes. Do only problems. Do not read the text)
  3. Schaum’s 3000 Solved problems is Physics by Alvin Halpern (The best thing about the book is that the problems are in graded manner)
  4. Problems in General Physics by I.E. Irodov (Problems are little tough but it helps developing analytical skills)
Video Lectures (MIT freshman physics classes) by Walter Lewin (They are amazing):

Better than Walter Lewin is Professor Shankar of Yale university...He teaches slow but he would explain every detail.........I would prefer him over Lewin...though both are amazing.........

No way

Lord Aejeth - 7 years, 9 months ago

Hell yeah!!! Irodov is the best!! I strongly recommend that book.

Tuan Anh Pham Nguyen - 7 years, 9 months ago

How can I get the good books, Vishwajeet?

I guess Book No. 1, 3, 4 are available globally, you may not find book no. 2 in Indonesia. You can buy the other three from Amazon.com or some near by book shop.

@Vishwajeet Mishra thanks for your info. Vishwajeet, maybe do you have a link for a book number 2? I also lack in physics and need more practice to master it. Maybe you can send to my email if you have it: [email protected]. But, if you don't have it, it's okay. :)

@Leonardo Chandra No brother, the book is written by an Indian author so it is hard to find a PDF of the book. But if you read and practice the other three you can easily master Freshman Physics.

@Vishwajeet Mishra Okay, I feel unlucky. If only I were Indian, maybe I can read this books. :( But, maybe you have a good books for freshman physics for free? You can share it via my email. Thanks. Someday, I'll inform you when I've enough skill by reading your shared books. :)

I enjoyed this: The Feynman Lectures on Physics

Alex Benfield - 7 years, 9 months ago

This might be relevant to you. 'edx.org' has introduced Classical Mechanics course just few days ago. You might find it interesting. Take a look.

I really think the best is Physics for Scientists and Engineers with Modern Physics by Raymond A. Serway and John W. Jewett. It basically talks about every single thing their is in physics. Every major aspect of Mechanics, Waves/Oscillations, Thermodynamics, Electromagnetics, Optics and Modern Physics. They assume you know nothing so they will teach you everything from the basics so ur concepts will be excellent. They supply all the relevant formulas and worked examples. There is also a math appendix in the back which may help you. I really recommend you get it

Saad Haider - 7 years, 9 months ago

Serway and Jewett's Physics for Scientists and Engineers knows all.

Cody Johnson - 7 years, 9 months ago

I also loved Sears and Zemensky.

Krishna Subramanian - 7 years, 9 months ago

Halliday, resnick, walker or halliday, resnick, krane will be useful ...! also try H.C.Verma

Pradeep Ravichandran - 7 years, 9 months ago

I think it's easier if you begin with conceptual physics rather than calculus based physics such as the Halliday Resnick. Johnson and Cutnell Physics is good with conceptual physics although I myself haven't studied physics enough to be able to give you advice on material. This site http://www.lightandmatter.com/ also has some good overview on physics as well.

Victor Phan - 7 years, 9 months ago

Irodov and krotov

Tushar Gopalka - 7 years, 9 months ago

Giancoli Physics 6th edition. This book seriously well help you understand so many physical concepts.

j i - 7 years, 9 months ago

Berkeley Physics Course Volumes 1 - 5

Not the average physics compendium as the Resnick series, or Serway, or Schaumms. This will teach you college physics, but will not take you by the hand. Nonetheless, they're sufficient to burn through most courses.

trust me, I'm a physicist :p

The Feynman Lectures are awesome and entertaining, but contains NO problems. XD

Alfredo Saracho - 7 years, 9 months ago

H.C VERMA is the best and you could use S.Chand for rekindling interest in physics

Yaseen Samudri - 7 years, 9 months ago

you should take Pradeep publication's books.(divided into 2 parts)
