Victor Loh's Messageboard

Everyone else is doing it :D

A few facts about myself: I'm 13 and I love Maths! I study in a school called Raffles Institution. Also, I'm a moderator on Brilliant for a few topics such as Algebra and Number Theory (I don't know whether I'm supposed to reveal this :D)

I'll leave more details to the comments. Have fun! :D

(I hope this works out just like all the rest of the messageboards, which have had great responses (probably because they have loads of followers like Finn Hulse and I only have 350+))

  Easy Math Editor

This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

When posting on Brilliant:

  • Use the emojis to react to an explanation, whether you're congratulating a job well done , or just really confused .
  • Ask specific questions about the challenge or the steps in somebody's explanation. Well-posed questions can add a lot to the discussion, but posting "I don't understand!" doesn't help anyone.
  • Try to contribute something new to the discussion, whether it is an extension, generalization or other idea related to the challenge.
  • Stay on topic — we're all here to learn more about math and science, not to hear about your favorite get-rich-quick scheme or current world events.

@Mardokay Mosazghi Hello :D

In Primary 66 (equivalent to Year 66), every student in Singapore has to take an examination known as the PSLE (Primary School Leaving Examination). Subjects such as English, Chinese, Math and Science are covered. The T-score of each student is computed (it's quite complicated because it's the relative score of each student to one another and not simply the sum of all the test scores). In this case, Raffles Institution (and a few other independent schools) are regarded as the 'top-tier' secondary schools out there (Year 7127-12) and usually you have to get 260\geq 260 to gain entry. The top scorer in Singapore (I think) achieved a score of 275275. I got 268268 :)

That's why in the Singapore Maths Olympiad, the top 3030 usually consists of students from RI :)

Charlton Teo - 6 years, 11 months ago

Lol ok :D

Victor Loh - 6 years, 11 months ago

I hope the following comment doesn't become controversial.

YES! I have seen that Brilliant has a lot, almost half of the members from India and SINGAPORE. So, yes, USA, this time, it's Asia winning the race for the love of MATHS.

But yes I think that Brilliant doesn't have a moderator from India. Is there any??

BTW, celebration time for you!!!!

@Kartik Sharma Why celebation and who's the one from Inde? And BTW-Kartik are you good at french? DO you have it as second language in school?

Krishna Ar - 6 years, 11 months ago

@Krishna Ar Celebration because as you might also be knowing that Djokovic recently defeated Federer in a very exciting match at Wimbledon and Nishant has Djokovic in his profile pic, and so, he must be in joy celebrating his 'icon's' 7th grand slam win.

News apart, ah I liked that Inde[french for India(for those couldn't understand)]. Yes, I have it as a 3rd language in my school but i don't know if I am good at it because the real challenge comes only when talking to a real french guy..

Maintenant, tu sais 4 langues - l'Hindi(je pense), l'anglais, le francais, et Tamil....!!!!!!!

Kartik Sharma - 6 years, 11 months ago

@Kartik Sharma Well I actually watched the whole match. The thrills were clearly visible in the 4th set when FedEx clawed back from a break down to clinch it 7-5. Congrats to Djoker. And about my avatar, I only admire his game. As such I don't support any individual. Do you follow tennis everytime ? How about you @Victor Loh ?

Nishant Sharma - 6 years, 11 months ago

@Nishant Sharma Yes, I do, actually, I follow almost every single sport. But still, I follow tennis, cricket, and football the most and I love to watch the matches. Well, I was a little disappointed in the finals match because I wanted the CLASS to win and after the 4th set, I was very confident about that even but still, I am happy for Djoker and he deserved it. Cheers!!!!

Back to studies(although fully after the WC) and I really want some help especially in Geometry, E&M, and Calculus. being my elder, please advice me something!!!!

Kartik Sharma - 6 years, 11 months ago

@Kartik Sharma I don't think it's the right place to talk about in detail Kartik. For Electricity and Magnetism I'd suggest go for H.C.Verma for concepts and once you done with that get onto I.E.Irodov . BTW which standard are you in now ?

Nishant Sharma - 6 years, 11 months ago

@Nishant Sharma H.C. Verma and IE Irodov, yeah, I have them(one PDF and other book) but don't have much strength to study them regularly, being a 10th grader. BTW, can you suggest me something for Geometry and I hope @Victor Loh also comes in this conversation.

Kartik Sharma - 6 years, 11 months ago
