  Easy Math Editor

This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

When posting on Brilliant:

  • Use the emojis to react to an explanation, whether you're congratulating a job well done , or just really confused .
  • Ask specific questions about the challenge or the steps in somebody's explanation. Well-posed questions can add a lot to the discussion, but posting "I don't understand!" doesn't help anyone.
  • Try to contribute something new to the discussion, whether it is an extension, generalization or other idea related to the challenge.
  • Stay on topic — we're all here to learn more about math and science, not to hear about your favorite get-rich-quick scheme or current world events.

Well, this certainly got a lot of upvotes, and for good reason :) I like the idea a lot. Honestly, I find that videos are much better at teaching a concept than text documents are, and this would be a logical next step for Brilliant once some of their current projects (like improving the solution submission system and getting the computer science section up and running again) are finished.

Of course, it would take a lot of time and effort on their part, so it may unfortunately not be feasible, but I think they should definitely try it.

Hi all,

We will certainly take this suggestion into consideration. It is not a matter of whether we think it is fun; we'd probably love to become movie stars, but a matter of whether we think video provides the most effectiveness per unit of our effort for this community. Unlike Master sessions, available videos could be viewed by an unlimited number of people at their own pace, and it might be a valuable way to spend our time to offer resources to a large number of people.

However, It is important for everyone to remember, that a huge portion of the people who use Brilliant, do so from poor internet connections, on slow computers, while possessing a better grasp of written English than spoken English. Our higher priority is actually taking steps to make our website experience better for them. Also, those nice videos on Khan academy and minutephysics etc., are easy to make very poorly, but are actually extremely labor intensive to produce and edit. That said we will talk it over and weigh out whether it would be worth our time given our current time resources and the audience we would like to reach.

I would think of it, as being similar to MIT OpenCourseWare and other free online lectures, from renowned professors, intending to spread and uphold the kindle of knowledge to others, for a better future. The low bandwidth users would download them and then view them in their spare time.

"brilliant" idea indeed

Sourav Chaudhuri - 7 years, 10 months ago

I agree. It may add live video class or download option for slower connection.or may add live video chat system for discuss the problem.

This is of dire requirement, both for better problem solving & for interaction... Actually when you look someone approaching a problem, you feel more encouraged & your thinking process can inculcate how a problem should be tackled...

yeah,,,it can be of great help@@

Ravi Prakash Roy - 7 years, 10 months ago

I like this idea, there are many concepts that are much easier explained by videos rather than through text.

FanPu Zeng - 7 years, 10 months ago

I agree if lecture were on topic s

Tushar gautam - 7 years, 10 months ago

I agree too.

I think Brilliant has no intention of bringing back master sessions or they would've atleast replied to this discussion.. This feature has been requested many a times before but no consideration has been made

Usually, if they reply, they reply after several days.

and also know that they live on the opposite side of the world (compared to India), so wait for sometime, it may still be early morning there.
