Wait... What? (Multiple Choice Glitch)

I just experimented with a multiple choice question and saw that LaTeX was now supported in answer choices, but contrary to what the preview showed me, \text apparently doesn't work, and it looks weird. Is this a glitch?

This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

When posting on Brilliant:

  • Use the emojis to react to an explanation, whether you're congratulating a job well done , or just really confused .
  • Ask specific questions about the challenge or the steps in somebody's explanation. Well-posed questions can add a lot to the discussion, but posting "I don't understand!" doesn't help anyone.
  • Try to contribute something new to the discussion, whether it is an extension, generalization or other idea related to the challenge.
  • Stay on topic — we're all here to learn more about math and science, not to hear about your favorite get-rich-quick scheme or current world events.

Comments

Are you using "\ (" and "\ )"? It seems to work for me!

I have \ [ and \ ]

I'll send the link to my friend and have him take a screenshot for me. Give me a couple minutes.

@Trevor B. Yea; it worked at the beginning, but then stopped working.

@Minimario Minimario This is weird. Just to confirm, to embed a picture, it's an exclamation mark, then some random text in [ ], then the link in ( ).

If so, then that's not rendering for me either.

@Trevor B. The reason your image isn't showing up is because you linked to "http://s1149.photobucket.com/user/mrsiriustab/media/Screenshot2014-01-16at105816PMzps6ece3728.png.html" rather than this link "http://i1149.photobucket.com/albums/o590/mrsiriustab/Screenshot2014-01-16at105816PMzps6ece3728.png" (which is the direct link to the image itself.

@Silas Hundt Oh, right, I forgot about the direct copy link. (My bad, not a glitch)

Trevor B. - 7 years, 4 months ago

@Minimario Minimario I fixed your problem as well, Minimario.

Silas Hundt Staff - 7 years, 4 months ago

Hmm, something funky is going on here. I'll look into it more.

So, Trevor, I changed your answers. It looks like \text makes the LaTeX rendering fail when used in MCQ answers—we'll make a more comprehensive fix for that soon. For now, just using { } to declare \text seems to work just fine!

Ok, thanks a lot. Please also check Minimario's problem.

EDIT: Thanks for being comprehensive and fixing them both!
