Consider a current carrying wire. We know that current is the flow of electrons. Assume that you cut the wire at some instant. Then, what happens to electrons that are flowing? Does air conduct it? or what?

As the electrons flow through wire they get accumulated at the end of the cut end due to the potential difference earlier. The atmos. press. ,which when greater than the the pressure created by the the electrons on the cross section of the cut end , prevents the outflow of electrons into the air. This continues till both the ends have same equal number of electrons. If the setup would have been repeated in the vacuum the outflow of electrons woud have taken place.
when u cut the wire while current flow the that time as soon as wire get cut the flow of electron stops and electron present second half portion of wire become stable or neutralized .the second thing is that the flow of electric current through air is also possible under certain circumstances like air pressure and presence of humidity in air and many other think best eg of this is thunder

if the current is in huge quantities and other factors like moisture etc are present current will flow towards the lower potential.
yeah somewhat.. !! neutralised by the air .. !! isliyee agar zyaadaa current hogaa aur tab kategaa na spark hogaa .. !!
the energy is released in the form of a spark and the flow of current is then stopped...

but what happens to the electrons in first half portion of wire? does the electrons from it fall down on the ground or they get collected at one end??
