What's the criteria for leaderboard rankings on challenges?

It doesn't seem to be solely based on speed.

Does it factor in age and incorrect attempts?

Just curious.

Hi Arjun,

Right now the leader board is ranked by who has the most points in your level so far that week, with ties being broken by lifetime points. That is why people who solve problems early, climb up the leaderboard, and then get edged out. We are looking into changing this in the near future.

Shouldn't we get some weightage for submitted solutions in that particular topic ?

Well we are still deciding...

We are considering just listing everyone who has solved all four problems per category in the week. In this system we might make the order their faces are displayed random, or we might rank them in order of solution upvotes, we are still debating.

What do you think would be the best way to award glory and celebrate interesting people on Brilliant?

@Peter Taylor – I like the idea that everybody gets displayed who solves all four problems, and I also like the idea that people are ranked by solution upvotes.

@Peter Taylor – The primary reform should be that you should consider points for problems solved in that particular topic whose leader board is shown , not all the lifetime points. Different people are good at different topics.

@William Cui – For the record, William we side with Jatin on this one. We believe it should be easier to see the achievements of people of different levels, but we do not think it is a good idea to rank everyone in one long list.

Huh? I solved all 4 problems for combo3 and I have more lifetime points than the first place person but I am not even in the top 20... (this happened a couple times)

The current system doesn't seem too bad, though I guess it would make more sense to use points in that level and that category for each category's ranking, with overall points per week and then lifetime points for ties.

Yeah the current system isn't too bad, but it could be a lot better, and we intend to improve it. The current system made a lot of sense when we were a young site. These days the leaderboard has evolved to just be a ranking of lifetime points. While that is an interesting and valuable thing to look at, it does not change that much, and it is not the most interesting way to celebrate what people are achieving on Brilliant every week.
