Wiki Collaboration Party - Geometric Probability, Magnetic Field Lines, Archimedean Property.

Woohoo! I'm excited that Ivan, Sharma and Vishnu have hosted their sessions last weekend. It was an enriching experience for everyone involved. They encourage you to host your own wiki collaboration session, and have this to say about the experience:

  • I grew more confident about my ability to present. I learnt many new examples in the topic.
  • It gives new insights of what's good for the community/the wiki page, enables discussions with people of similar interest.
  • It turned out great! I see why finding the examples are important to making the page great.

If you're interested in participating, send me a message or write your name down in this document

I am proud to announce that the Related Rates of Change page is now up and running. Please look over it and give us your feedback, so that we can improve the page further. 3 cheers to Andrew, Pranshu, Priyansh and Pi Han for contributing to this page.

We are still in the process of working on Circumcircle, Simpson's Paradox, Differential Equations, Distinct Objects into Identical Bins. Please help us out by filling out a portion of the page.

This week, we will be improving:

Each meeting will be conducted over Slack chat and will last for approximately 60-90 minutes. We will achieve the following:

  1. (5 mins) Figure out the target audience, and their motivation for reading the page
  2. (20 mins) (Quick review of examples) Discuss what we love / don't love
  3. (15 mins) Ensure we have a complete list of examples
  4. (15 mins) Discuss how to organize various sections of the page
  5. (10 mins) Settle on the final structure of the page
  6. (5 mins) Assign out sections to write over the week

This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

When posting on Brilliant:

  • Use the emojis to react to an explanation, whether you're congratulating a job well done , or just really confused .
  • Ask specific questions about the challenge or the steps in somebody's explanation. Well-posed questions can add a lot to the discussion, but posting "I don't understand!" doesn't help anyone.
  • Try to contribute something new to the discussion, whether it is an extension, generalization or other idea related to the challenge.
  • Stay on topic — we're all here to learn more about math and science, not to hear about your favorite get-rich-quick scheme or current world events.

Hello everyone, the meeting will start at 8AM EST in the physics lounge on the Slack channel. If you're unfamiliar with the channel, let me know and I can help you get started.

I've listed out some sections that I anticipate ending up in the wiki as well as some classic B\vec{B}-fields as examples for mapping: magnetic field lines

For those on UTC(+5:30) the party will start at 9:30PM. If anyone from a different time zone wants to help out, respond with your timezone!

Okay, I'll join in.

This isn't my first Physics wiki. I wrote the Gauss Law wiki too.

@Agnishom Chattopadhyay Oh haha, I forgot the term "collaborative". Added it in.

Calvin Lin Staff - 5 years, 9 months ago

@Calvin Lin Yep, i'm in! When do we start...?

A Former Brilliant Member - 5 years, 9 months ago

Awww, I'm not 100% sure I'll be available on Saturday. I'll make it for the other two, but I'll try my best to make it for this as well.

Vishnu Bhagyanath - 5 years, 9 months ago

I'll try to help. I've got my exams going on.

@Pranshu Gaba did a great job leading the Geometric Probability wiki collaboration party this weekend! Thanks to all who participated @Pi Han Goh @Sharky Kesa @Xuming Liang The page is in the works -- anyone is welcome to help complete the page :)

Here's a summary of what was discussed:

1) We had some introductions with fun facts:

2) We discussed the motivation for reading this page:

3) We discussed the various examples and decided which to keep/remove:

4) We decided on a structure for the page and assigned the tasks:

@Josh Silverman hosted a wonderful session on Magnetic field lines , and we have a better idea of how to organize the page. Lots of people participated, including @Rajdeep Dhingra , @Abhineet Nayyar , @Vishnu Bhagyanath , @Nihar Mahajan , @Agnishom Chattopadhyay , @Calvin Lin , @Sudeep Salgia , @Sravanth Chebrolu , @Karthik Sharma , @Gautam Sharma . Everyone is welcome to help complete the page, now that the sections are decided. If you have any questions, just ping us!

Here is a summary:

1) We introduced ourselves

2) The motivation for the page felt obvious -> learn how to sketch out magnetic fields

3) Talked about the examples, and classified them further

4) Decided on the structure of the page

5) Assigned out sections to write

I will add up some good geometrical probability problems (perhaps after 10 days) . Currently I have exams going on in School. I will also collaborate in the magnetic field lines and about field due to magnetic dipoles.

Pranjal Prashant - 5 years, 9 months ago

How do I participate on the subject of the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics, scheduled for Sept 28? I can't seem to get in Brilliant Slack now.
