Wiki Weekend Party 17 - Chemistry and Calculus

We have had a successful Chemistry WWP last week, and the contributors were eager to suggest, discuss, bounce ideas, comment, etc on each other's work. To get involved in these conversations, you can join the #Chemistry chat room by signing up here.

We are going to continue with Chemistry this week, which would help us get closer to launching Chemistry on Brilliant. We will also be working on some Calculus wikis, and have set up #Calculus for the exciting conversations.

Calculus (If there are specific wikis you want to work on, ping me):
Integration of Exponential Functions
Integration of Trigonometric Functions
Integration of Logarithmic Functions
Integration of Rational Functions - Requires some thought to organize this page well
Integration of Algebraic Functions - Add proof of result, Add negative exponents
Integration - Problem Solving
Riemann Sums - Add explanation/examples of how to calculate limit of sum as an integral
Definite Integrals
Activity will be tracked in the Calculus tab. Check out who's contributing and what others have to say!

Chemistry (If there are specific wikis you want to work on, ping me):
Mixtures
Limiting Reagents
Ionic Compounds
Acid Base Equilibrium
Redox Equations - Classical Concept
Electrolytic Cells and Electrolysis
Bohr's Model
Atoms and Molecules - Add examples and images
Balancing Reactions - Explain N-factor in more detail
Activity will be tracked in the Chemistry tab. Check out who's contributing and what others have to say!

This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

When posting on Brilliant:

  • Use the emojis to react to an explanation, whether you're congratulating a job well done , or just really confused .
  • Ask specific questions about the challenge or the steps in somebody's explanation. Well-posed questions can add a lot to the discussion, but posting "I don't understand!" doesn't help anyone.
  • Try to contribute something new to the discussion, whether it is an extension, generalization or other idea related to the challenge.
  • Stay on topic — we're all here to learn more about math and science, not to hear about your favorite get-rich-quick scheme or current world events.

That's what i call a party. (Monster party)

Calvin Lin sir I'd help to elaborate some chemistry wikis like mixtures, limiting reagents etc.

I also suggest that there must be a wiki for the Physical/Calculative Chemistry(I'm having a whole lot of questions on physical chemistry) and the Basic Atomic Structure (which may be further divided into Bohr's model and Quantum Mechanics based on Schrodinger wave equation).

Those are good suggestions. Here is the full list of planned chemistry skills (likely with more to be added). Ping me with your suggestions, and I can add them in. They might not make the immediate list, but we can add to them over time :)

That's a great list of topics sir. It'll be a lot of fun working on those wikis. I'm still studying bonding so I'll be capable of working on that wiki after a month or earlier. Still I can work on the Fundamentals and Atomic Structure topics.

By the way, what those pink and green colors suggest ?

Rishabh Tripathi - 5 years, 11 months ago

Just post the questions and they will be added to respective topics.

ohh.... thanks for telling. I wasn't knowing that. But Calvin sir asked for any more topics to be added so I suggested some. I'd love to work on them.

Rishabh Tripathi - 5 years, 11 months ago

I'll add the proof of the formula xndx=xn+1n+1\int x^n dx = \frac{x^{n+1}}{n+1}

Garrett Clarke - 5 years, 11 months ago

Hello Sir! Is there any scope of introducing Quantum Mechanics on Brilliant?

Swapnil Das - 5 years, 11 months ago

Once these initial Chemistry Wikis are done, we will be adding more skills like the Quantum Mechanical Model.

Calvin Lin Staff - 5 years, 11 months ago

Hello Sir, I wish to write up a page dealing with various numerical methods through which atomic and molecular weights like Dulong–Petit law, cannizzaro's method of determining atomic weights etc are calculated.

Sounds exciting!

You can add a new wiki directly. Let me know when you're done, and I will work it in with what we currently have.

Calvin Lin Staff - 5 years, 11 months ago

Riemann sums completed.

Gautam Sharma - 5 years, 11 months ago

I'll try filling up the redox reactions and electrolysis pages, they were taught to me recently(good that I remember most of that stuff :P). I'm currently finding images for atoms and molecules, will be done by tomorrow.

Sravanth C. - 5 years, 11 months ago

Dude if you're finding images then look out for some images depicting mixtures too. We can help each other in this way. I'll be helping you out with posting a good set of problems on redox reactions. Though I don't know much about electrolysis now.

That's the spirit!

I don't see you in the #chemistry channel as yet. Come on in :)

@Calvin Lin Done sir. :)

Rishabh Tripathi - 5 years, 11 months ago

@Calvin Lin Oh yes! I've cleaned up the atoms and molecules page a bit, and I've found the images.

Sravanth C. - 5 years, 11 months ago

please put geometrical optics, wave optics, thermodynamics, wave, light, sound, solid state, liquid state etc in physics

put organic chemisty nomenclature of organic and inorganic molecules compounds etc. periodicity........
