Hello guys,

i want to show you this Inverse Graphing Calculator which present the letters of your name as an equation.

it is really amazing and by studying this equations you can arrive to many exciting results.

This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

When posting on Brilliant:

  • Use the emojis to react to an explanation, whether you're congratulating a job well done , or just really confused .
  • Ask specific questions about the challenge or the steps in somebody's explanation. Well-posed questions can add a lot to the discussion, but posting "I don't understand!" doesn't help anyone.
  • Try to contribute something new to the discussion, whether it is an extension, generalization or other idea related to the challenge.
  • Stay on topic — we're all here to learn more about math and science, not to hear about your favorite get-rich-quick scheme or current world events.

Interesting. I typed just a dot '.' and also tried a straight line (character '/') and it created a complex 3rd order equation.

I was hoping it will give a simple equation for a dot! Why did it not do that?

I too was having a similar doubt . Most of the equations it renders are > 4 degree or have complex polynomial square roots.

Krishna Ar - 5 years, 10 months ago

Well, it need to make sure that the domain only covers the dot.

Kenny Lau - 5 years, 10 months ago

Really interesting!! Thanks.

C'est tres bien. !! Ca me plait beaucoup.

Krishna Ar - 5 years, 10 months ago

I really like this a lot.

But one of the problems here is that there is no way I can copy the equation and try it on a different graphing program to check whether the equation works at all.

Probably the given equations may not have a solation, at least most of them !!

Niranjan Khanderia - 5 years, 10 months ago

If you can't copy it, you may type it completely. I have verified it. The graphs are the same.

The underscore or minus is just a square pulse so that could be done with a fourier series aswell.

Doesn't work anymore?
