Hi everyone !
I was getting bored with solving question paper after question paper in my preparation for JEE . So just to freshen up a bit , I started playing with my Funskool 3X3 Rubik's Cube .
It was a while since I last touched it so I hadn't expected my time to be any good , but after around 5 minutes of whiling my time , I achieved something !
I had bettered my previous best of 20 seconds and solved it in 9.4 seconds !!
You can't imagine how happy I am ! I really am in the 7th Heaven !
I am pretty sure that there might be many people out here on Brilliant who are also interested in Speed Cubing , am I right ?
I request all Speed Cubers who are reading this , do comment on your solves here . I just want to compare myself with all the talented Speed Cubers out there ! Not just Speed Cubers but also those who are interested in it may also comment here .

I'm pretty bad at cubing but anyway, here's my timing:
∞
Better than mine. I complete mine in around
01
Wow! −∞? Damn... you're a master.
Hahahaha
What method do you use ?
Oh... Um... I use a very well known method known as just twisting it around. The timing can be approximated to be infinity.
I use the same method as Julian except at the end, I thro the Rubik's cube with great force from my balcony to the ground.

While solving the Rubik's cube , I be like :

Hi Hippo ! :P
@Thaddeus Abiy Are you into Speed Cubing ?
I would call it "speed" cubing..But yeah, I was really into it at one point. @Beakal Tiliksew does legit speed cubing though..
My best is 15 seconds......But that's for solving one face :P
Log in to reply
Lol ! You got me . I was shocked when I read the first part of your sentence .

Btw , I have replied . If you know what I mean :P

Insanecuber !!
@Azhaghu Roopesh M Yeah,he is.I saw the video in which he solved the 17x17x17.Did you see it?
Lol! I just saw it . He's really a god . I wouldn't even be able to hold that huge cube in my hand properly :P

Mine is 30 sec for the whole cube.
Which method do you use ?
No not scary .. I was in a bad mood... and tried to refresh myself by reading something but got a headache then I tried some maths but was unable to understand. Then I picked up the cube which I bought just a week before. It was the frustration which caused that. But since then I never bought another cube.
u are close to beating the world record!!!
Yeah . Close but not close enough !
Some amount of practice might be enough :). BTW my timing is 57s. Can't find out a way to better it
Log in to reply
I have found out that ZZ method is the best but I just can't change my methods right now , it'll take a lot of time to get back on track using the new method . So I guess I'll have to stick with Fridrich and just improve my speed .

i tried a lot but can't solve in less than 30 sec i will take around 40 sec
Cool! When I was small I used to solve it in around 2 minutes(maggie xD), at present I don't know how much time I'll take because I lost my cube :(
Log in to reply
I too used to solve it in around 2 minutes.
What method do you use ?
@Azhaghu Roopesh M I don't use any advanced methods .I just solve it layer by layer.
So do you have any plans on starting cubing again ?
Yeah when I'll travel if I find someone selling(in train actually) then I'll definitely buy it BTW whats the world record?
5.55 for a single solve - By Mats Valk
7.9 seconds for an average of 5 solves - By Felix Zemdeggs
Now comes the interesting part !
2X2
0.69 seconds !!!!! for a single solve - By Christian Kaserer
Although I can only manage around 7 seconds for a 2X2 cube.

Actually I won't be able to memorise a whole cube , so I can't do the blindfolded thing . But yeah , I have tried the one-handed solve (1 minute 4 seconds ) and solving a 3X3 by looking at a mirror(2 minutes) .
oh great! I always enjoyed minesweeper,do you happen to have a thing for minesweeper too?
Not really . I just consider that as a game of luck ! (which I don't have)
But I can solve the 15 Puzzle in about 25-30 seconds (I play the one for iPad , not the real one since that just worsens my time)
I also have a thing for Tangram , Brainvita (19 seconds , the real one , not the video game) , and mostly any thing related to solving puzzles .

What do you mean by GS ?
I had just learnt how to solve a 3×3 cube, and my personal best is far too low than yours @Azhaghu Roopesh M it is 1 minute 15 seconds!
Don't worry , even my first solve was 45 seconds , but I came down didn't I ? You'll reduce your time too :)
What method do you use ?
I don't know the exact name of the method, but I'm pretty sure you'll understand if I say "I use the layer by layer method". . .

Don't forget to play some pranks on your friends :P
Log in to reply
Oh yes! sure, I am not a very idle guy who doesn't like playing pranks on his friends!
I used to do this way back. I still have my cube.. It was a craze in class 9 and 10.... @Vishnu H Nair could do it the fastest in our group of peers(then). Not sure I remember, but his fastest solve was around 20 seconds or so. My time then(and now) is about 40-45 seconds. I use intuitive F2L and 2 Look OLL and PLL. The fun part is that you can't forget how to solve it.... muscle memory for the win! @Azhaghu Roopesh M
Log in to reply
Exactly ! My friends ask me to teach them some of my favorite algorithms , but my mind goes blank each time they do so .
I can't explain them that it's been etched into my muscle memory and that I cannot just tell them the notations .
Well , you'll laugh at me , but I don't use Intuitive F2L . I just use the basic Fridrich Algorithms , and two of my own ones ! And I rely on moving my fingers fast , rather than memorising the Algs .
When I think abt it now , I really feel that I can get a decent sub- 10 solve time if I memorise some more Algs , but I just am not able to do it .
Let's have a match if we meet after JEE .
my prediction : both of you will have a match at IIT Bombay.
My best is around 20 second for 1 face. Im able to arrange only two faces and as I try arrange the third one, previous two gets dearranged. . :(
But my best friend @Akshay Bodhare is pretty damn good in speed cubing! ⌣¨
Log in to reply
That's where algorithms come in . To try to keep on solving without your efforts getting wasted .
Hmm , good to know about Akshay . What's his best solve till now ? Don't tell me it's less than 9.46 seconds! I want to be happy for some more time !
I dont remember. I will ask him to comment his best time. But he is not only good in 3x3 , but also in solving 4x4 and 5x5 cubes.
My best is 45 seconds,I really stop after solving the first two layers simultaneously thinking about which algorithm to use.I am bad at remembering OLL,PLL,F2L. Btw,I can solve 4x4 in 2 min 10 sec,5x5 in about 4 min.I am nothing compared to people like Feliks and the like. Your time is really good you can easily become the best in India.
Also cubing is the only prominent art wherein muscle memory is greatly tested . So you really can't forget cubing !
Nah! I can never become the best . After managing that 9 seconds solve , I cubed for another 5 minutes , and my average was 11-12 seconds . Seems like that 9.46 seconds was just by luck . Besides there are some of my friends who solve in less than 8 seconds consistently .
I don't know 4X4 and 5X5 . Maybe I'll learn it after JEE .

Let's see after JEE , if I am able to compete with you in a Rubik's competition with 2x2 ,3x3,4x4, and 5x5 !
I've touched the Rubik's Cube just once and tried to solve it. I don't know what it was, my rough handling, aggression of not being able to solve or the smash which I continuously gave it... but it BROKE apart. :D

I just tried google up the pdf that I use but it seems the free version was pulled back and hence I can't provide you the link .
First of all see this . This is the most basic method of all . once you learn this by heart , you can start using Fridrich method .
For F method there are many sources other than the pdf that was removed . You can try this .
Just try them out and if you don't feel comfortable with this method , just @mention me here and I'll try to help you out :)

P.S. How come were you able to solve the whole cube in 9.4 seconds? o.O Did you even shuffle the cube? XD @Azhaghu Roopesh M

Yeah ! I shuffled it . It's really nice to know that there are many Speed cubers out here =)

Thanks MehulI can solve the 3 by 3 in around 28 seconds using the beginners method but by using CFOP method I can take around 40 seconds . Now I am trying to learn the ZZ method which has a great one hand potential to solve it . And also I can solve 2 by 2 ,blindfolded and with feet . And also the rubik's revenge . and the mirror cube .
Mirror Cube is fun to solve! 2 by 2 as well.
All the puzzles like this are fun to solve .
ZZ method ? If I am not wrong , it's the one using Eoline right ? A friend of mine uses it and always beats me by around 4-5 seconds . Do learn it and pls teach me since I wasn't able to learn it online ^_^
Log in to reply
I have some videos like 2 by 2 blindfolded , 3 by 3 blindfolded , 4 by 4 tutorial and the ZZ method , if you can give me your e-mail id i can mail them now , I am very sure you would learn them all .

Toggle the first and last rows of a 3x3 rubix cube as fast as possible and you will solve it in no time
Log in to reply
Yeah , if you keep on doing a certain pattern of moves over and over again , you'll end up with the solved cube !
Whoa @Azhaghu Roopesh M 9.4 seconds!? I usually take 1 minute but just like you I haven't been playing with it recently so my average time has gone up to 80sec. I use the Fridich method but I haven't learnt all the algorithms yet. Can you suggest what I should do to improve?
Well , all I did learn some basic algorithms and make some of mine (just 2) and I speed cube almost every hour (well started it yesterday after a really long time) so my speed is maintained !
So which method do you use?
My best is 35 seconds :D.. .

Which method do you use ?

Fridich method... But its all about speeding up your fingers... And i guess nobody can beat your time here... You are close enough to break world Record.

How much time does it take you to solve the Rubik's revenge??
At last I'm now able to solve the cube... I'm a beginner in that and my best time was 6 and a half minutes thanks @Azhaghu Roopesh M for giving me motivation and that PDF file

That's great news ! Now try to learn finger tricks and bring down your time to less than a minute :D
Even though I have left B'ant for now , I still use Google + for academic purposes , you can catch me there if you have an account .

Yeah I have an account.. I'll get in touch with you just after 10th May. And by the way.. my new best time is 4 minutes. :D :D
i learned to solve through the F2L method but it confused me a lot than solving the cube by solving each layer
