Work backwards. Take off the 3 days: he was 73 years, 1 month old on Jan 31 2013.

So he was exactly 73 years old on Dec 31 2012.

Therefore, he was born on Dec 31. 2012-73 = 1939. So he was born on Dec 31 1939.

Y cant a month stand for 30 days??

Because in this case, January has 31 days.

perhaps im still not able to accept that 1 month = 30 days i wrong ... coz thats a standard thing most of us consider for easy Calc.

@Ganesh Ayyappan Unfortunately, there are no easy calculations here because this problem uses the screwed-up calendar we currently use, not one designed for easy calculation. Of course, since 1 year = 365.2422 days long, it's just about impossible to come up with a calendar that makes any sort of sense. That's a very inconvenient number.
