It's 7 because S-E-V-E-N, if you take S out, It becomes E-V-E-N

I typed in the word SEVEN in alpha format....and was scored wrong. System was looking for number 7. If the question is in alpha, shouldn't the answer also be in alpha?

Technically, the grammar of the question is incorrect. "Even" should have been in quotation marks, as I did in this sentence.

Gosh you must be so much fun at parties haha :=D

'Seven' becomes 'Even' when you remove the 'S'.

@Rishabh Sood What?? how

Ashish Menon - 5 years, 4 months ago

Log in to reply

@Ashish Menon Ok, here is the method. Suppose u take the problem with 100 people. Now which power of 2 is closest(lower) to 100?, it is 2^6 that is 64. Now, subtract 64 from 100, you will get 36. Now, simply multiply 36 by 2 and add 1. Hence,u get 73. >So, the trick is to find the closest power of 2 to the number of people, then subtract it from the total, and then multiply the answer with 2 and add 1.

@Ashish Menon A simpler method, In shape 1, we have 1 1 In shape 2, we have 2 3 In shape 3, we have 3 5 In shape 4, we have 4 7 In shape 5, we have 5 9 In shape 6, we have 6 11 In shape 7, we have 7 13 So, in shape 10 we will have 10 19=190 Do u notice the pattern?

@Rishabh Sood yes true. Great genius you are .Amazing for a child of your age to do it. Look my solution in "Another nice problem"

Ashish Menon - 5 years, 4 months ago

@Rishabh Sood Which power of 2 is closest to 1000? It is 2^9=512, so subtract 512 from 1000, to get 488, now simply multiply 488 with 2 and add 1 to get 967

Rishabh Sood - 5 years, 4 months ago

I still stand with my answer: XI Remove the I and you have X which is even. This solution allows infinite solutions I think (still counting). The smallest possible natural number solution using Roman Numerals is, of course, III.

In this answer, I stands for 1. In his question James loo has clearly mentioned that he is removing a l e t t e r letter and not a number. Got it☺☺☺😊

Seven, remove the S to make "even"... but I can't say even with what.

He/she said letter not number so the answer should be seven so here are no need of a numerical answer.
