Let CD=x

By Internal angle bisector theorem,

6 4 = 12 x \dfrac {6}{4}= \dfrac {12}{x}

x = C D = 8 x=CD=8

I think this like proving the similarity of the triangles A B D ABD and A C D ACD , and then the ratio of the corresponding sides would be equal.
