Chemistry Level 2

The degree of unsaturation in C X 3 H X 3 C l X 3 \ce{C3H3Cl3} is x x ,

and the degree of unsaturation in C X 3 H X 4 O \ce{C3H4O} is y y ,

and the degree of unsaturation in C X 4 H X 5 N \ce{C4H5N} is z z .

Find x + y + z x+y+z .

The formula for Degree of Unsaturation of an organic compound is given by

U . D = C + 1 H N 2 \boxed{\large{U.D=C+1-\dfrac{H-N}{2}}}

Here

C = No. of tetravalent atoms in compound C=\text{No. of tetravalent atoms in compound}

H = No. of monovalent atoms in compound H=\text{No. of monovalent atoms in compound}

N = No. of trivalent atoms in compound N=\text{No. of trivalent atoms in compound}

So by putting values in this equation,... we get

x = 1 , y = 2 , z = 3 \boxed{x=1,y=2,z=3}

x + y + z = 6 \implies \boxed{x+y+z=6}

How do you calculate it in the second case where there is a divalent atom present in the compound?

Divalent is not taken into consideration for U.D formula
