Osmosis takes place when water moves from a region of higher water potential to a region of lower water potential through a semi-permeable membrane, which allows water to pass through but not ions in solution.

Bonus: Can you list out some differences between diffusion and osmosis?

Osmosis - movement of water to even out concentration gradient

Diffusion - movement of solute to create a homogenous solution

Osmosis occurs only in selectively permeable membrane. Whereas diffusion doesn't require that.

Correct. Can you tell more?

@Nihar Mahajan Yeah. Osmosis requires a water medium, but diffusion doesn't require any specific medium.

@Nihar Mahajan We were taught about all this last year. . .
