Don't get tricked!

Logic Level 2

One day, a boy called "Bob" went outside with 3 of his friends: Jimmy, Harry and Fred.

So they all played a game called "Guess It". Its where you're blindfolded and one of your friends have to tell you who he is, the others have to lie. And you have to get the one to tells the truth.

  • Harry said: "I am Jimmy"
  • Jimmy said: "I am Fred"
  • Fred said: "I am Fred"

What is the chance of Bob getting the right person?

Bob can be sure that the person saying "I am Jimmy" is lying because he were actually Jimmy, that would mean that one of the people saying "I am Fred" was telling the truth as well-- and we know that only one person is telling the truth (in other words, Bob can reason that the person who says "I am Jimmy" is Harry. So Bob just has to take a guess between the two friends who said "I am Fred" knowing that one of them is Jimmy and the other is actually Fred.

Well, It's very simple. 3 options, and one correct answer, and you have 1 3 \frac{1}{3} . Unless the blindfold is torn or something,in which case it would be 1 \num{1} . Everything helps.

Yeah, but seen as nobody said "I am Harry" we know that Harry is lying so we can rule him out. Then there is Fred and Jimmy so he has a 1/2 chance of getting it right.

Wouldn't we have to assume also that their voices are indistinguishable from one another? If Bob is able to tell their voices apart, or even able to tell one apart from the other two, his chance of guessing correctly changes drastically, wouldn't it?.
