You can count the faces here

I think there are 38 faces:

  • 9 on the front as there are 9 cubes
  • 9 more on the back
  • 5 on the left as the F is 5 cubes high
  • 5 on the right
  • 5 on the top (3 on the upper horizontal arm and 2 on the lower arm)
  • 5 on the bottom (2 on both arms and one that the F stands on

seeing the top, we'd only see 3

There are 3 that can be seen from above, but the lower arm of F also has 2 top faces

@Charles L I dont know whether you are considering the bottommost face connected to ground.

@Charles L But the problem isn't about faces we can see. We are just asked to count the number of exterior faces.

There should be 38 faces, otherwise it might be that your question is unclear.
