It is possible to checkmate Black in one move: move Pawn to g7 to g8 (move one step forward) and promote it to a Knight.

With White Queen attacking Black king, the Black king is unable to move. No Black units can dodge/block White queen's attack, and Black king can't move from this position h7.

Black King can't take White Knight on g8 because the White Rook is guarding the g-file.
And lastly, Black King can't move to h6 because the promoted white knight attacks that square. Its a checkmate.

Rookie mistake : Most often users will promote the Pawns to a Queen because it is the strongest and most valuable unit in the game (other than the King, of course), but this is not always the case, as illustrated in the explanation above.

What? How?

Promoting the white pawn to a knight, leaves the black king in check by the white queen, the newly promoted knight attacks the h6 square and the rook on g1 protects the knight.

I agree but shouldn't the initial positions of white and black be mentioned first. He has also forgot to mention that it is white's turn

@Ashish Menon I agree with mentioning if it's white's turn, but the positions in standard chess notation are... well, standard. White starts from the bottom and black from the top. Absolutely no need to mention that.

Sometimes underpromoting is better. In here underpromoting to knight checkmates the opposing king.

This is very true
