Find the rational numbers....

{ u = 7 16 + 5 16 v = 7 + 5 w = 7 8 + 5 8 x = 7 16 5 16 y = 7 4 + 5 4 \large \begin{cases} u = \sqrt[16]{7} + \sqrt[16]{5} \\ v = \sqrt{7} + \sqrt{5} \\ w = \sqrt[8]{7} + \sqrt[8]{5} \\ x = \sqrt[16]{7} - \sqrt[16]{5} \\ y = \sqrt[4]{7} + \sqrt[4]{5} \end{cases}

Given the above, which of the options is a rational number?

u v w x y uvwxy u v x y uvxy v w x y vwxy u x w y uxwy

u x = ( 7 16 + 5 16 ) ( 7 16 5 16 ) = 7 8 5 8 u x w = ( 7 8 5 8 ) ( 7 8 + 5 8 ) = 7 4 5 4 u w x y = ( 7 4 5 4 ) ( 7 4 + 5 4 ) = 7 5 u v w x y = ( 7 5 ) ( 7 + 5 ) = 2 \begin{aligned} {\color{#3D99F6}u}{\color{#D61F06}x} & = {\color{#3D99F6}\left(\sqrt[16]7 + \sqrt[16]5\right)}{\color{#D61F06}\left(\sqrt[16]7 - \sqrt[16]5\right)} = \sqrt[8]7 - \sqrt[8]5 \\ {\color{#3D99F6}ux}{\color{#D61F06}w} & = {\color{#3D99F6}\left(\sqrt[8]7 - \sqrt[8]5\right)}{\color{#D61F06}\left(\sqrt[8]7 + \sqrt[8]5\right)} = \sqrt[4]7 - \sqrt[4]5 \\ {\color{#3D99F6}uwx}{\color{#D61F06}y} & = {\color{#3D99F6}\left(\sqrt[4]7 - \sqrt[4]5\right)}{\color{#D61F06}\left(\sqrt[4]7 + \sqrt[4]5\right)} = \sqrt7 - \sqrt5 \\ \color{#3D99F6}u{\color{#D61F06}v}wxy & = {\color{#3D99F6}\left(\sqrt 7 - \sqrt 5\right)}{\color{#D61F06}\left(\sqrt 7 + \sqrt 5\right)} = 2 \end{aligned}

u v w x y \implies \boxed{uvwxy} is rational and the other options are not.

Thanks for the solution! :)

@Ojasee Duble You can place your mouse cursor over the formulas to see the LaTex codes. Or you can click the pull-down menu \cdots at the bottom right corner of the problem box and select Toggle LaTex. You don't need to key in the "LaTex:" in front.
