Good Ol' Magnets

The diagram above depicts two bar magnets suspended by string. If "N" labels one end of the magnet as magnetic north, then determine the magnetic pole labeled with "?".

South Impossible to tell North It can be north or south

[n-s] [s-n]

Exactly..it can be easily found by observing repulsion between like poles..

Is the presumption of the repulsion due to the appearance of the 'strings' connecting the magnets to the ceiling? I thought that it was impossible to tell since the 'strings' may be immovable connecting objects. Can someone clarify? Thanks! :)

ok there are two magnets n-s, s-n because of repulsion they repeled oposite each other. since there is only single space between the pole they must have same pole...

we can see their is repulsion between the two. since like pole repel each other hence south pole is repellig south and other end is north.

I'd like to ask, what are the purposes of the other parts of the diagram? Thanks! :)

Im not sure what u meanby other parts, basically they are hung from a place and those are string attached to the magnets. I just thought it would make it more realistic and presentable

Oh! Got it, thanks! So the two magnets are hanging and the two south poles caused the gap in the middle of the 2 magnets.

@Alexander Paul yes exactly

@Alexander Paul There are actually 4 magnets

@Rohit Agawane I know. I was talking about the two in the middle of all four.

Yeah. Some other parts might have important meaning.

Repulsion between the poles shows that the other end is North [N S] [S N]

The magnets are repelling as indicated by the direction of the suspension. The only way they can repel is if like poles are directed toward each other
