Let, A = 0.4 23 = 0.4 + x A=0.4\overline{23}=0.4+x , where x = 0.0 23 x=0.0\overline{23} .

Then, 10 x = 0. 23 = 23 99 10x=0. \overline{23}=\frac{23}{99} x = 23 990 \Rightarrow x=\frac{23}{990}

And, A = 4 10 + 23 990 = 419 990 A=\frac{4}{10}+\frac{23}{990}=\boxed{\frac{419}{990}} Therefore, the answer is, 419 + 990 = 1409 419+990=\color{#0C6AC7} {\boxed {1409}}

Thanks. As far as I know, it's the most common method to solve this type of problems.

The main part is to realise the divisor such that 23 /99 as 99 is little vague and may cause further confusion.

. 4 23 ¨ = 0.4232323232323... .4\ddot { 23 } = 0.4 23 23 23 23 23 23 ...

\frac { 4 }{ 10 } +\frac { 23 }{ 1000 } \frac { 23 }{ 100000 } \frac { 23 }{ 10000000 } \frac { 23 }{ 1000000000 } \ \frac { 4 }{ 10 } +\frac { 23 }{ 1000 } (1+\frac { 1 }{ { 10 }^{ 2 } } +\frac { 1 }{ { 10 }^{ 4 } } +\quad ...\quad )\ \frac { 4 }{ 10 } +\frac { 23 }{ 1000 } (\frac { 1 }{ 1-\frac { 1 }{ { 10 }^{ 2 } } } )\quad \Longrightarrow \quad \frac { 4 }{ 10 } +\quad \frac { 23 }{ 1000 } *\frac { 100 }{ 99 } \ =\quad \frac { 419 }{ 990 } \ \therefore \quad 419\quad +\quad 990\quad =\boxed { 1409 }

Correct the last line. You have written 419 990 = 419 + 990 \frac{419}{990}=419+990

What!!!

Is, 419 ÷ 990 = 419 + 990 ? 419÷990=419+990?

@Md Omur Faruque Oh that is the equation after simplifying:

\frac { 4 }{ 10 } +\frac { 23 }{ 1000 } *\frac { 100 }{ 99 }

@Syed Baqir I don't know what you're talking about. But you have written something like: 1 2 = 1 + 2 \frac12=1+2 0.5 = 3 \Rightarrow 0.5=3 And, I don't know how this can be correct.

Actually, the answer is alright. But you have to say that, N u m e r a t o r + D e n o m i n a t o r = 419 + 990 Numerator+Denominator=419+990 You can't say 419 990 = 419 + 990 \frac{419}{990}=419+990

@Md Omur Faruque Ohh actually I assumed that people would notice this since I mentioned already in the Question .

@Syed Baqir Equal sign means equal and only equal, nothing else. You can never use the ' = = ' sign if both sides aren't equal.
