By ratio and proportion. 1/x=1.66/1 .where x is Time in hrs is equal to 1/1.66=.6024 to convert in mins times 60 then you'll get 36.14

Why is it 1.66?

1/x=1.66/1 It will take 1.66 times speed of ie to be be equal with mozilla speed. It will take 1hr to dl the file for ie while xhr for mozilla. Constant file which is one.

@Romnick Manio – It must be 1.6666
@Romnick Manio – Ie speed=1file/1hr MF Speed=1file/xhr Ie speed (1hr)=MF speed (xhr) Ie speed (1hr)=(1.66 × Ie speed)(xhr) X=1/1.66=0.6024 hr
M -> Speed of Mozilla I -> Speed of IE
M(1 + (66.66/100)) = I I = 1hr = 60 mins
Therefore, M(166.66/100) = 60 M = 60*100/166.66 = 36 mins.
Ok careful 'cause here comes the village idiot. Why is it not correct to just think: 1% of 60 mins is 0,6 mins, 0,6*66,66 = 40, so 60-40 = 20 minutes for Firefox?
Time taken by M. firefox is inversely proportional to that of I.E. . therefore time taken by IE I hr= 60 mins . is to be multiplied by the ratio 100/166.66, which gives us, the required answer: : 36.mins.
You should have said the answer must be in min
Internal explorer will tale 1.6666 times more than Mozilla firefox.So if it took i hr to unload the file Mozilla Fire fox will take 1/1.6666 X60 mts that is 36 mts Ans K..GARG,India
You should also mention upto how much decimal place one should answer.
100/166 of an hour = 36 mins
Please raise my level. Gerald Rains
If suppose Mozilla takes one hour to down load a file, internet will take 1.66 hours to down load a file. Hence, if internet takes one hour (60 mins) to download a file, then mozilla firefox will take 60/1.6666 or 36 mins to download a file.
WRONG, WRONG. If something is 50% faster, it should take half of the time to complete. If somthing is 66% faster, it should then take less than 30 min to complete (less by the amount of 16.67% of an hour to be more specific)
bt m getting 39
You could add another option for those people that incorrectly think Firefox takes (60 - 0.6666 x 60 ) =20.004 mins to dolwnlolad.
Simply think that IE can download 10 MB/min , it will be 600 MB/hour , if Firefox is 66.66% faster, it will download 16.66 MB/min , just divide 600 by 16.66 ! It will be 36 minutes , very simple!
Brazilians are good!
166% : 100% = 5/3 : 1
Therefore, for 1hour , MFox only takes 3/5 of the time 1hr x 3/5 = 36min.
An hour is 60 minutes. 60 / 1.6666 = 36
Moz-100% IE-100+66%, Moz time 60min , IE - 60/1.66=36
x 1 = 6 0 1 × 1 0 0 1 0 0 + 6 6 . 6 6
x = 3 6 . 0 0 1 mins
(60 - x )/ x = 66.66/ 100
6000 - 100x = 66.66x 166.66x = 6000
X = 36.00 !!
Rate = Quantity / Time, so Rate and Time are inversely proportional.
Rate x Time = Quantity.
Since the Quantity (data that is downloaded) is constant then the time will be the reciprocal factor of the rate.
I took 66.66% to be the equivalent of 2/3 so that Firefox's rate is 1+ 2/3=5/3 of Internet Explorer's rate.
Therefore Firefox's time would be 3/5 of IE's time.
3/5 of 60 minutes is 36 minutes.
Just a note: I think this question is not accurate. The browser used has no (or little) influence in the time needed to download the file. If the internet link speed is the same, the time would be the same.

s = v t => 1.6666 t = 1.0000 x 60 => t = 36.00
Why all of the steps? (60/1.66) = 36.144578
The approach of the qs is x%(e.g.66%) of the existing stuff(e.g. 1hr of download period)
Let X=speed of mozilla, & Y=speed of internet
taking file size as 180 units, speed of internet Y=file size/ time taken =180/60=3
Also from the given data, speed of mozilla, X=.0.6666*3 + 3 =4.99999 =5(approx)
thus time taken for the mozilla is = file size/speed =180/5 =36min,
Simply choose the shortest time - Internet Explorer is just that slow.
Letspeed of IE be x Then a/q speed of mozilla =166/100x work =speed time i.e. x 60(speed of ie and time taken in minutes? Now you have another speed divide it as 60x/166x/100=36 minutes
(100/166)*60= 36.14 minutes ~ 36 minutes
Lets say, speed of internet explorer = 100mb/hr Then, speed of firefox = 166mb/hr ==> 66% faster 1 hr = 60 minutes
166:100=60:x
x=36.14 mins
if you let Firefox (x) speed
IE (y)speed
x speed of FIREFOX =y+.66y=1.66y
time=c*speed^(-1) c is constant
speed1/spead2=time2/time1
1/1.66=x(time)/60
so x(time ) of Firefox is =60/1.66=36 min
.
we can think mentally and we can say the answer
let downloading speed be 1mb per min in IE, then total data downloaded by IE is 60mb. Since mozilla has speed 66% more then IE so its speed will be 1+66/100*1=1+0.66=1.66mb per min. Now to download 60mb, it will take 60/1.66 = 36min.
Let us consider the speed of internet explorer x,so the mozilla will get a speed of (166.66/100) x so in x speed the file is downloaded in 60 mins so simply in (166.66/100) x it will take approx 36 mins.
Simply divide 1/1.6666 ( speed faster by 66.66%)and multiply by 60 mts that is 36 mts Ans

The confusion of "x% faster" begins for me when you try and consider what "-x% faster" means. http://math.stackexchange.com/questions/12768/what-does-1-13-times-faster-mean has some discussion on this topic. Generally, it is accepted in math word problems that "x% faster than" means what it says: (additionally) faster than. But "only x% as fast as", which is a similar but differently worded expression, would generally mean slower than. With math or statistics word problems, you just have to go by the generally accepted terminology. That means that students have to practice these kinds of word problems to understand how to interpret them. Otherwise, it might be easy to mistake the meaning. For example, if you read this problem to mean Firefox is "only 66.66% as fast as IE", then you might think the answer was 60*(1/66.66%) = 60 * (3/2) = 90 minutes.
I seem to be making a mistake that I can't find. If FF download time is .3334 (1-.6666) that of IE then if IE takes 60 min it follows that FF takes 20 min.

Your mistake is that when the question says fireox is 20% faster, it doesn't mean firefox takes 20% less time to download . Note that Unit of speed is Bit/Seconds, but unit of time is Seconds.
I agree. Question is poorly phrased. 66.66% faster is ambiguous.
