If Bill Gates Drops $1000, Should He Chase After It?

Algebra Level 1

In 2013, Bill Gates earned $11.5 billion dollars through his business activities and investments. Assume that he earns that money at a steady rate, working 365 days a year, 24 hours a day.

If he happened to drop $1,000 in cash while walking in the street, how long will it take for him to earn it back?

All that you do is divide 11.5 billion by 365= dollars per day. Then divide by 24= money per hour. Then divide by 3600 to get dollars per second. You should get about 364 dollars per second. 1000/364= 2.75 seconds.

Just divide 11.5 billion by 365 then by 86400 to get Bill's per sec income then multiply it by 1000 to get the answer = 2.75

it is not that much difficult, all that you have to do is to divide first on 365 to get the income per day,then on 24 for income per hour, then on 60 to get the income per minute ant then again 60 to get the income per second. it will give you per second income and then at last divide 1000 by that income you will get the time needed.

its very simple [1st open 11.5 million=11500000] [365X24X60X60=31536000] then divide it [ 31536000/11500000=2.74] [sorry for grammer ;p]

Working 24 hours a day for a year, he made 11.5 billion dollars in 8760 hours, i.e. 31536000 seconds. so to make 1000 dollars, he has to work for 31536000/115 ^8 * 1000 seconds, i.e. =2.74 seconds.

Converting 365 days in to seconds will be 315X24X60X60 = 3,15,36,000 sec. Recovery of 1000 US $ will take 3,15,36,000 X1000/11.5 billion that is 2.74 seconds Ans

First of all to achieve the rate of money bill earns per second , divide 11.5billion by 365, then divide it by 24 and then by 3600. Now using this divide money earned(ie.1000) by the by the rate .

$1000* (total one year seconds)31536000/ (11.5 billion)11500000000=2.74.....

365 Days * 24 Hrs * 60 mins * 60 Secs = 31,536,000 Secs So, $11,500,000,000 in 31,536,000 Secs == $1000 in [ $1000 * 31,536,000 Secs / $11,500,000,000] = 2.74 Secs

use ratio and proportion in one year there are 31556926 seconds 11.5 dollars= 11500000 thousands so 11500000:31556926::1000:x x=31556926 multiplied by 1000 divided by 11500000= 2.75(approx.)

Answer = 1000/[11500000000/(365x24x60x60)] = 1000/364.66 = 2.74

David Bass

I set up the following equation:

11500000000/365/24/60/60 = 364.66

This gets you from how much he makes a year, to day, to hour, to minute, and to second.

Since this is multiple choice, you can easily see 2.74 is the answer because there is no other choice that looks correct if you know he makes 364.66 dollars per second.

(P.S. Can someone tell me how to make a division sign?)

You can type \div in Latex, to get ÷ \div .

You can read the Math Formatting Guide for more information.

all that you have to do is first divide 11.5 billion by 365=dollars per day . then you have to findout how much he earns for a second & DIVIDE 1000/365

Convert 365 days to seconds, multiply by 1000 and divide by 11.5 x 10^9 = 2.75 seconds

Divide 11.5 billion dollars by (365 24 3600) to get the no. of dollars earned per second. This is equal to 365. Now divide 1000 by 365.You will get 2.74 seconds

$11.5 10^9 = $11500000000; $11500000000/365 = $31506849.315068493 per day $31506849.315068493/24 = $1312785.388127854 per Hour
$1312785.388127854/60
60 =$364.662607813 per second; $1000/$364.662607813= 2.75 second, bill get a 2.75 second earn 1000 dollars

In one year 1 yr=3153600 sec yearly income=$11.5 billions income in 1 sec=total income/total time // // //=$364 in 1 sec $1000 take time=1000/364 time consume to earn $1000=2.74 seconds

Ahsan Iqbal
Feb 27, 2014

It was simple...

$11500000000 / 365 = $31506849.32 per day

$31506849.32 / 24 = $1312785.39 per hour

$1312785.39 / 60 = $21879.76 per minute

$21879.76 / 60 = $364.66 per second

now, $1000 / 364.66 = 2.74 seconds...

hence Billy earns $1000 in approximately 2.74 seconds... :-)

He earned $11.5 10^9 in 31536000 sec so to earn $1000, he takes ($1000 31536000 sec)/($11.5*10^9)=2.7422 secs Thank you...

Simply calculate dollars earned per second and then find seconds required to earn $1000. $11.5 billions=$11500000000 $11500000000=365 days 365 days=31536000 seconds $11500000000=31536000 seconds so $1000=2.74 seconds

You divide 11.5 billion by 365 to get the dollars per day. Then you divide the number by 24 to get the dollars per hour. After that, you divide by 3600 to get dollars per second. The answer turns out to be about 364 dollars each second. You do 1000 divided by 364 and you get 2.75 seconds.

Is Bill Gate so rich as Qaroon a richest man during the days of Mosis. His richness could not save him when he was dying. From muslim point of view wealth is not the symbol of success in this world and hereafter.
