A lady buys goods worth Rs.200 from a shop. (shopkeeper selling the goods with zero profit).
The lady gives him Rs.1000 note. The shopkeeper gets the change from the next shop and keeps 200 for himself and returns Rs.800 back to the lady.
Later the shopkeeper of the next shop comes with the Rs.1000 note saying "duplicate" and takes his money back.
How much LOSS did the shopkeeper face ?

Shouldn't the ans be 2000. I am saying this because total loss = lady's profit ( 1000 ) + The 1000 Rs the shopkeeper had to pay to the other shopkeeper

Loss of shopkeeper1 is ------ Rs 200 that he had kept + Rs 800 that he gave to that lady..............Now Lady made a profit of Rs 1000................See shopkeeper2 only get back his Rs 1000 returned ie Rs 200 ( that shopkeeper1 had ) + Rs 800 (that shopkeeper1 had to pay from his own pocket).........So now you tell me your point..
see shopkeeper gave the 800 of the changed 1000rupee note which he brought from another shopkeeper to the lady and kept 200....so now when the other shopkeeper came to take his money back....he has to give from his side 200+800 .........the 800 that he gave to that lady was not of his own but of that shopkeeper....Hope you gt it now....
The Shopkeeper took 1000 from other shopkeeper by giving a duplicate note. Later the other shopkeeper gave back the duplicate note and took back his 1000 rupees and hence shopkeeper in this transaction will not loose any money. This was just a give and take case. Hope u got it. :)

@Achint Gupta – Try this question practically between 3 people. 1st person assume to be the shopkeeper, 2nd person assume to be the second shopkeeper and 3rd person assume to be the lady .. Then you might get the correct answer.. :P Post your result after that.. All the best.. Cheers Dude

@Abdul Qavi – okay, let me check, anyways thanks :)
@Achint Gupta – Plz note Achint that the loss faced by the shopkeeper is different from total money the shopkeeper paid to others. Loss is nothing but money with the shopkeeper before the lady came to him minus the money with the shopkeeper after the next shopkeeper took his money back. If u r still not convinced then u can google and get the answer. Enjoy!!!
worth of goods is 200.....so when you sell it and people pay you fake note...you lost 200.........secondly, the fake note is exchanged with next shop...he pays the lady 800....and keep the 200...note that this 800 and 200 is real note from shop next door.......when the shop next door found out the note is fake....he come to this dude to get his money back....he paid back real 200 and his own real 800 to compensate the shop next door......he get back the fake 1000...he lost 800 in this process....so 800+200 = 1000
At the end of the initial situation, the shopkeeper has given 200 rupees worth of goods away, and has taken 200 rupees as his payment. So he has no profit nor loss at this point.
When the other guy takes back the 1000, suddenly, he loses 1000. So now he is on -1000.
he has earned 200. but in Rs 1000 exchange ho got lost

lady's profit = Shopkeeper's loss. The lady got goods of RS.200 + Rs.800 of exchange.
